John Grey Champagne Sparkle

I would agree on the rewrap if it weren't for the original heads, brushes, sticks, pedal, and general look of having never been played. This drum set was for sure never played. No way it was rewrapped. Definitely similar to premier and Beverley. Owned by the same company for a bit maybe?

They are beautiful. My jaw dropped when I saw the Headmaster heads. I only own one Autocrat snare, which is a pain when it comes to mounting heads.(Though you can make it work with shims and a hair dryer on low). I have always had a hankering to find a Headmaster to see how it fit and played. You are a lucky guy.

I don't know about the champagne sparkle, never seen it.The missing badges are odd.

Of course my snare has a wrap I've never seen before, and an extra (slightly smaller) JG badge above the throw. The snare does have the faint black ink stamp on the interior for John Grey, but a lot of the internal washers were cheapo contemporary. All weird enough to make me assume my JG has had some work done.

Beautiful kit in any regard.

Yeah...I don't know man. Its a strange one for sure. Im digging it though. Id love to hear if anyone else has experience with these drums and has maybe seen one with "made in england" stickers instead of badges.

Well the 12 is the only pre-international size drum in the kit. Ordered a1 11 and 7/8 ambassador from Drumfactory Direct. Should be here tomorrow. Grabbed some DW clip on spurs and took the bass drum out for a test drive last night and its rad. Excited to hear how the rest of the drums sound! This will be a cool little gig kit I think!

Ha! I just bought a John Grey Broadway kit last week (63/64). I have a couple threads on here about it (identifying snare drum value and floor tom question).

The floor tom that came with mine isn't a JG however...it's 60's, it's finish matches and it sounds great though. Another person on here identified it as early 60's Pearl...but I'd like to eventually find a matching JG one (hint hint, anyone out there...).

I love the hoops on these drums, the tension rods and BD T-rods are also amazing as well. So solid, unique and classy looking. The guy I bought mine from put a regular triple flange hoop on the 12" batter side, standard skin's will work that way apparently. He gave me the original hoop as well, I plan on ordering some pre-international heads soon to get it all matching.

I've fallen in love with this kit. It's build quality is very very solid. Sounds super funky...especially the bass drum. I used it on a funk/soul gig this last weekend, and the other players were flipping out about it. I think I'll do a video on it, as soon as I tweak it a bit (new heads, might have the edges done as well).

Congrats on the kit, welcome to the club:) If you ever consider selling it, PM me.

Here's mine.
