Jazz Festival Reproduction

Finally, a months old off-and-on project is complete, and the drum looks and sounds better than I had hoped for!

This one started out as a 1959 WFL 10x14 Marching Snare Drum (the original gold sparkle wrap was not salvagable, see 2nd pic). I cut it down from the top to 5.25x14, saving the original snare beds and reso side bearing edges. I reinstalled the top reinforcement ring (glue with clamps) and re-cut the outer edge of the new batter bearing edge. Drilled new bottom holes for the lugs (the old bottom holes became the top holes), a new air-vent hole and internal tone control holes.

That's a new Ludwig P-85 throw-off, new Puresound snares, new Evans heads, and a reproduction B/O badge with no serial number. The rest of the hardware is vintage parts (not original to the shell, however, as that was nickel and most of it "shot"). That is NOT the new "Modern Bermuda Sand" wrap, but an old piece of champagne sparkle.

One hell of a job, Bill! That drum looks every bit as good as anything that ever left the factory. Really nice work man. I love the drum.

Hi Bill! Excellent job with your Jazz Fest reproduction! I'm also doing a repro, except that mine is using a Keller shell with re-rings. It's already been wrapped in Blue Sparkle to match my Super Classic outfit and holes drilled for the lugs. Only have to drill for the strainer, butt, air vent and muffler. Like yours, I also have a Blue/Olive badge with no serial number.

Again, kudos on a great job!
