This thread is AWESOME. I got bit by the Ludwig bug a few months ago. Been playing for 40+ years and never had a Ludwig kit so I started snooping around. I found these mid-60's Blue Sparkles on Craigslist. I plan to use them in the recording studio but I'll keep everything original. Here is a pic of the kick drum with new hoops from Precision (stained black and polyu'd). I want to keep the original hoops as I got them, which is in very good shape so they'll go into storage. Generally the drums are clean enough to eat off. In fact too nice for that!!! I plan to use a Pearl Optimount or Rims suspension for the rack tom and a Rims mount for the floor. Don't worry I have no plans to make any holes. I think I lucked out with these... most of the chrome has absolutely no pitting. More pics when I get everything together (maybe some sound bytes too). 'Makes me feel like a kid again....

peace

Steve

Here is my humble contribution to the thread... my modest (but VERY practical) Ludwig snare collection.

First up, the Black Beauties. A 6.5X14 B/O badge bought new in 2010 (wish I could afford the 79-80 version...) and a bronze-shelled Monroe badge (88-91) 5X14. The bronze drum may very well be my favorite sounding snare drum EVER.

Next up is my 69 B/O badge Acrolite. Funkayyy!!!!

Finally, this drum is the pride of my collection and the one drum I would never part with for any amount of money or any circumstance. A 1941 Ludwig & Ludwig 7X14 maple shelled (w/maple re-rings) snare in white lacquer finish. Given to me by my dear friend Roger. A beautiful looking and sounding drum in every sense of the word.

Cheers,

Ryan
