Is root beer swirl a rare wrap? In comparison to blue sparkle or WMP maybe. There seems to be a reasonable # of them here. Since I don't speak Francias, I don't know what is included in the sale. They are pretty...

treverson-- From what i gathered up here on vintage drum forum, the wrap is pretty rare, but they seem to be popping up quite a bit lately..

Nothing else is included on the sale.. Just the shell pack..

Downtown farmer-- I saw the ad you're referring to ! Ridiculous..

It's in mint condition, but at that price , i can get that vintage late 70's black cortex Ludwig that is posted up on Kijiji as well for $725, and it's negotiable !! Lol !.. Now , that's a great deal ;)

Worth about half that - which is more than some people would say.

There are alot of really awesome MIJ kits that are priced between 700-1000 that are rare and downright awesome kits......but they sit for months with no buyers. Indeed some are rare and therefore worth more (especially if they are cleaned and polished up) - but not quite that much. I would say these rare and restored (or pristine original) are worth between 400-600. If an MIJ kit is cleaned and polished, but not rare, I would put it at 300-400. Unrestored they should be able to be snagged up at 100-200.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

human71,

You are so right!!! Hey, I love my MIJ's but, let's be realistic! They are what they are. Sure, tuned well with good heads, they can sing but, the prices that some people are asking for them is idiocy! These sellers need a good slap on the side of the head. Wake up, money grubbing Shylocks!

the guys with the black cortex are pretty cool, but you really need to see ALL their stuff up close... when i went , a lot of the drum stuff was piled high in a back room and completely disassembled

that means a "kit" could easily have four different makes of rims, or 23 tension rods of one brand, 11 of another, and 7 of different others, all of varying lengths

granted, they'd only been open a few weeks, but there seemed to be a lot of "rehearsal space rescues" in the pile

as far as pricing, people will ask for whatever they want... until they never sell, and then the re-posting and discounting starts until everything sorts itself out... kijiji is good for that, as the less astute don't realize that they've left their entire pricing history intact, so others can see where they started, and can wait accordingly

And why do you care what someone is asking for a kit? The only reason I would care is if I had an interest in buying it.

Johnnyringo-- I care somewhat because it bugs me that some jerk can try to sell this stuff as if to say we're all ignorant and don't know the actual value of drums, or hoping to reel in some clueless kid starting out and pass the drums off as valuable as say, a Ludwig kit

..Guys like that rub me the wrong way, but i guess there'll always be bum holes like that around...

I also don't see why it should bother you what i think about his asking price... Not trying to stir up any debate or animosity here so we'll just leave it at that, just thought i'd post this for people to see the rampant ignorance that is out there regarding the vintage drum market in my area.. Furthermore , i have no interest in the kit, even though it is in great shape.. But we all know why i, or anyone in their right mind wouldn't buy this kit..With that being said, it's all cool.. ;)

Locally, there's an 80s Gretsch that started at $7000 thats now at $5000, a Stewart that started at $799 thats now $500, and a cheeseball re-wrapper/chopper with 8 different sets and four snare drums that started at $500 and are now at about $240

Ultimately, it all works out in the end, and seriously, no one is "being taken advantage of" or being "mislead"... those sets will eventually reach their proper value, if they ever even sell at all

It'll just take a few years... like that fake Roger's Guy
