Imperial - Swiss-made vintage drums

Loading...

Thanks for all the kind words regarding the set, I sure am lucky to have it :)

I don't have much info on them either, the only thing I got from some German site is that Imperial (which were supposedly made by Oskar Baur) and Giannini were the only drum-makers in Switzerland after the war. Fun fact: they were also constructing typing-machines :))

Aand this is the only set I've seen on the interwebs, although I could have sworn that there was another set on the same site that was more simillar to mine, but i guess it's gone now, probably sold.

http://www.drumsonly.ch/en/02raris.htm

(it's on the bottom of the page)

The drums in general are really musical, they have a wonderful tone to them, it's just the drumheads that don't feel ok to me, kinda bringing the quality back for a notch...I just know that if i put some good heads on them, they'll sound 10 times better, but the pre-international sizes thing is a pain in the behind..

I was looking at stdrums, i presume that the Metrische Felle (http://www.stdrums.de/shop/index.php?cat=c127_Metrische-Felle-metrische-Felle.html) section is what I'm looking for, and I wanted to ask if some of you have used these, some feedback on quality, duration etc etc ?

Cool looking kit, never seen one of those before, the few other Swiss drums I have seen have a different look to them also, they don't really look like the British drums,or german or eastern european ones either.

I am thinking it may take awhile to scare up those Bass drum lugs,If you want to play that Kick double headed I guess you could find some lugs that fit the hole spacing and put them on the batter side while you are looking.

Those lugs would not be difficult to reproduce-round stock in a lathe and tap for rod threads and mounting screws.VERY unique set,at least on this side of the pond!

Both Imperial and Giannini are still in business. Imperial , I think just makes marching drums now. Perhaps , they would know of any Imperial enthusiasts around, that might have a few parts.Often, someone in smaller companies can keep track of such things. Giannini , seems to be continuing with kit drums.

Hello everybody, i would like to show you 3 of my beloved Eugen Giannini Trommelbau Zürich snare-Drums. This drums where made by famous drum manufacturer Eugen Giannini back in the 50's/60's here in Zurich switzerland. The oldest is the red one with aluminium lugs and parallel strainer. Everything is hand-made, i was lucky that he made this drums in international sizes. The aqua-pearl Snare is made for Framus by Giannini. Hope you like them! (I have to check if i maybe have some of this imperial-lugs if you still looking for them..)
