How Many Drums of Which Company here at the Forum?

Loading...

Okay, this is getting interesting, and only a few members so far have volunteered their inventories (perfectly understandable if some members don't want to advertise their entire vintage collections to the world).

Clarification on the metrics I'm using here:

1. Yes, we're counting TOTAL, individual drums (although this may not have been Dan B's original intent with this thread), but we can't look at just kits as a lot of members here own tons of snares but few full kits.

2. If a member lists "1 Rogers kit", I have to arbitrarily assign a number of drums to an unspecified kit, and that number is 4 (average vintage kit configuration). How about saying "5pc Ludwig kit, 6pc Leedy, etc.?

3. We're counting only the vintage American companies which are listed on the VintageDrumGuide.

4. This is all very unscientific and imprecise, but hey, we're just having fun here.

So here's what we've compiled so far (before Bermuda's post):

Any surprises? Aside from the fact that so far, Vintagemore2000 has more drums than the rest of us combined, the ratio between Ludwig/Slingy/Rogers/Gretsch is just about what I expected. Thoughts? Suggestions?

1 ludwig 3 piece

1 non-vintage ludwig snare

2 Slingerland Snares

1 Slingerland bass drum (this one is hopefully going to be sold soon as part of the pile of stuff - mostly sold already to pay for the new (old) Ludwigs)

Count the new Ludwig and the on the market bass drum as you wish.

Com'on, where are all the Rogers and Gretsch guys? Bermuda and Mark sure skewed the Ludwig count.

Oh, and I see we have some Fibes suddenly making an appearance ;).

Here's the updated chart sorted by popularity with all submissions so far. Next update on Monday morning when I return back to my office. I'm enjoying this.

Interesting stats so far, pretty much the same as my perception of the companies back in the day. I always regarded Ludwig and Slingerland at the top, Rogers and Camco next, and Gretsch as almost exclusively for jazz. I never really knew where Leedy fit in. I'm surprised that Camco hasn't made an appearance yet.
