How Many Drums of Which Company here at the Forum?

Loading...

I’m interested to know the degree to which each of the major US drum manufacturers of the 60’s is represented by members of this forum. Simply put, do we have among us more Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch or Rogers drums? The sequence of this list gives you some idea what I think might be the case.

I would have liked to add in other manufacturers, such as Camco, but the pole structure only seems to allow four fields. Considering that the above-mentioned four companies are readily available and the others like Camco much less so, I think the numbers are going to give a good representation of what I’m interested to know because there are probably many, many fewer Camcos or others than these four.

Now, the question is, how to score this properly in a pole? For example, if you have 5 Ludwigs and 2 Gretsch, can you vote 5 times for Ludwig and 2 times for Gretsch? Will the polling allow for that? Maybe one of the pole Gurus can set this up???

Individual drums or sets?

Uh, oh... good point. I think my 10-piece Rogers set should carry as much weight as two 5-piece Ludwig sets. Will each set be represented proportionally by the number of drums, or will each set be weighted equally and count as a single representation of the Make/Manufacturer? Sounds like a Great Compromise is in order here (see Connecticut Compromise in Wikipedia if you're a history buff).

I think at the end of this poling, we're going to discover that the breakdown of all our personal inventories probably reflects the exact percentage of drums that rolled off each U.S. company's assembly line, ie. Ludwig/WFL 40%, Slingerland and Rogers 20% each, Gretsch 10%, with Camco, Leedy Fibes, W&A, and misc. making up the last 10%.

I'll start the Excel spreadsheet and pie chart if anyone wants to post their American inventories in this template....

Camco Drums - 0

Conn Drums - 0

Dodge Drums - 0

Duplex Drums - 0

Fibes Drums - 0

Flat Jack - 0

Frank Wolf Drums - 0

Geo Way Drums - 0

George B Stone - 0

Gretsch Drums - 0

Kent Drums - 0

Liberty Drums - 0

Ludwig Drums - 6

Ludwig & Ludwig Drums - 6

Leedy Drums - 2

Leedy & Strupe Drums - 0

Rogers Drums - 26

Slingerland Drums - 0

Walberg & Auge Drums - 0

WFL Drums - 0

Well, that's my U.S inventory. Foreign drums are for a different thread.

I own one kit: Ludwig Jazzette (4 pieces including the snare)

additional snares: 5 Ludwig

so if you want to count by individual drums: 9 Ludwig. That's it.

Okay, we've got two members polled. Shall we keep this going?
