How Do You Restore A Speed King

Loading...

In reading some of these posts, I was thinking the same stuff as Hoppy.. RU CrazY? Take it apart, clean the old grease out, re-pack the bearings, grease up and re-assemble. ta daaaa! Whacking the goal posts with a hammer got the caps off everytime for me... even the one that only popped off a little because of the glue grease stuck to it.. I popped it off the rest of the way with a screwdriver...

Anyone else have the thin part of the pin and the thick parts pop apart? I have found quite a bit of that. I put them back together with locktite...

I've been trying to clean up my speed king pedal and it's looking a lot better. Haven't tried cleaning the insides yet. I was wondering about the floor plate part. As you can see in the photo's, the holes are somewhat chewed/elongated looking which causes a bit of play in it. It's also very slightly loose in the sideways direction (photo 2). Any tips?

Hi all...I had an old WFL speedking that had a very rough life. Have never seen one so neglected. Really ashamed. Anyway, I used Micky777 suggestion on tapping the posts with a hammer. I used a wood mallet, didn't hit it real hard or anything and worked like a charm. Popped right off....Joe

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

With my recent acquisition of a 1970's Ludwig Super Classic outfit, I decided a Speed King was a must. I purchased a Speed King on Ebay from Carlclub. It's an OK pedal. After some quick research, it turns out there is a Speed King offered by eBay seller "drummechanix" that is superb. The owner, Jesse, offers a you-tube video to explain his refurbishing/rebuilding process. I'm sold! I've refurbed my share of Speed Kings, but they can't equal what Jesse can do. His price of $149 is more than justified for the work that goes into these fine pedals. I can spend that time in detailing my Super Classic!
