Welcome! You are correct. This is an early 70s, around 72-73 Pearl stencil kit. A stencil is any one of over a hundred "brand names" distributed by St' Louis Music Supply or Brooklyn Music Supply. These guys bought hundreds of thousands of drum kits and slapped a name on them and sold them to the music stores. Nice looking drums, WMP and all. The snare is indeed a bit newer than the era thje rest of the kit is from. It would be from the late 80s to present, just looking at the strainer and shell.

These are very rare sizes as well. Most are 22-13-16, 20-12-14 or any combination of those sizes.

I have NEVER seen a stencil kit with the dimensions you've posted.A ten-lug 24" bass?In WMP?13,14,18?If it is the dimensions JS described,it's the same as my Pearl stencil kit, which is a white "driftwood" covering.

There were some. I saw an Apollo kit from the transition period from Star to Pearl. This is the same kit, minus the 16" floor tom. Remember the black Apollo kit from a few months back? It was 13-14-16-18-22...

I'm going to correct myself.I saw ONE set.Octa-plus style Power-Sonic(MIT) set with a 24 bass. They had the wonderful contact paper interiors. This would be around 83/84.8,10,12,13,14,15,16,18 concert toms.

I can only give my best guess- the pics don't tell us too much really- we could all get more of the truth from more pics. The toms and bass drum look certainly re-wrapped but otherwise like nice Pearl drums from, I agree, early 70s. The snare, definitely a cheapy MIJ or MIT, could be just thrown into the mix for the sale leading some to classify the drum in the same category- but I wouldn't. The sizes really tell me they are not stencils. Pearl Thunderkings had that double post mount in that style during this time period. They look good in WMP- that's a start. I would donate the snare to a young drum student and get new heads and a better snare to match these classic drums. BOL

I need some help with this-are there any PEARL drums with this bass mount? Not stencils,PEARL drums. All the catalog pages have the larger hex-rod with the clamping style mount, not the keyed two post. Also there ARE single post mounts with the Rogers style double tree on top.

Maybe my question is,are there 2 distinct levels in the Pearl line during the late 60's,early 70's of which we have no catalog reference pages?A lower line with straight out spurs and this hex rod bass mount, all lauan construction.

BTW-I'd be all over those drums.Add 1 Jupiter snare and SHAZAM!

I have one of these tom mounts in my inventory of parts. I have no clue where it came from, but it that exact part. I only know that the black drums I have linked to to above are the only stencils from Pearl I have ever seen in the these sizes and since I did not have the money, I could not buy them, but they are 24-13-14-16-18 and snare, and they are Apollo....

If I am understanding you correctly- you asking about the smaller hex tom mount system. This was the original type they began in 1969 and kept with until about 72/73. It began with a single mount hole where you could insert a t-bar with a double small hex mount on top - Later, they went to a this double holed bass mount -Let me see here if I can post some helpful shots.
