Beautiful drums! Classic shells. Early 70's with that interior and the three ply shells having reinforcement rings. If it does have a new bass mount, they are interchangeable with the originals. It was probably a Hollywood configuration 22/12/13/16 originally. The Super Classic kit used these sizes that you have but with a rail mount for the 13.

During the 3 ply era Ludwig only made one type of drum shell that was used for everything. It doesn't matter if you call them "classics" or "Super Classics" they were all the same (or at least considered to be the same by Ludwig, they might mix 'n' match the plies they used to build them but they were all considered to be the same product and combined into sets indiscriminately). The other names such as "Hollywood" "Downbeat" etc. just refer to outfit names or different combinations of the same drums.

As mentioned above those were most likely part of either a Hollywood or Big Beat set which were both 12/13/16/22 sets. Both these sets featured the same drums but the Big Beat came with Atlas hardware instead of the flat base stands that the Hollywood had. It is also possible that someone bought a "Super Classic" outfit (13/16/22) and ordered it with the center post mount with an eye towards adding another tom at some point in the future. That's less likely, but entirely possible. In any event the drums in any of these various sets were identical. A 13" tom from any of the above (or a pro-beat, etc.) was of the same construction as any other 13 in any other outfit with the only variation being the placement of the mounting bracket for left or right mounting.

In the 80's Ludwig did produce a 6 ply shell they called the "Classic" and a 4 ply shell they called the "Super Classic" but they are of a different design than the drums you have here. Ludwig liked to recycle various names they used so there are various products with the same names thru the years.

Looks like a very cool set. Green sparkle is one of the harder finishes to find and is often faded when you do. Those look mighty nice.

I dunno, man...My spider senses are up on this one....I think it might be a re-wrap. The original green sparkle wrap almost always faded...This kit just seems too consistently unfaded. And the bearing edge in that one picture looks sharp and...new looking. Plus, if it was original and that clean, it would have been a Super Classic (EDIT: Hollywood). So, where is the 12? It doesn't look like a kit that would have had a tom go missing.

I'd like to take a close look at the grommets from the inside of the shells, for one thing. And I'd also like to see more bearing edge pics and get an exact measurement of the shell depths to determine if the shells are shorter than they should be.

Wraps that are well known for fading (like green sparkle) that look this unfaded are a definite red flag for me.

My guess is that it's a refurbished kit.

If O-Lugs is correct it would end my confusion why the number is so low with granitone interior, perhaps a donor badge?

In Rick Gier's comprehensive Ludwig dating guide, he lists a interior like these with the serial number of 857643. So it's not too far off of the grid.
