Good morning. Nice place you got here. Just bought a mint condition set of red Dixie drums and boy do I have questions, but for now can anyone direct me to any difinitive posts about the subtle differences between Star, Tama and Pearl stencil kits. I already suffer from constantly watching ebay for "lawsuit" era guitars and basses and now that I have these drums I'm opening a whole new can of worms. Thanks in advance

If you just bought the red satin finish ones from the guy in Detroit off the 'bay, then I (and most likely

several of us) am aware of that kit. Yeah - nicest one I have ever seen! I own a Charcoal Pearl set just like those. Those lugs are called Battleship lugs, made by Pearl from about 72-74. I have had very few issues with mine, and I had the edges recut and it sounds amazing. You will likely get some guys replying to this to identify themselves as the MIJ experts. Keep an eye on this thread and they will show up.

I have rarely ever met such big-hearted and knowledgeable guys (and a gal here and there) anywhere else on the 'net. They have the patience (we all pitch in) to help most anyone out here and between all the members, it is very rare that we get a stumper.

Enjoy your kit! I was going to snag that up, but the price simply went too high for the current state of my wallet.

Welcome to the forum!!

Hey SpookyDave welcome to the VDF. What's a "lawsuit" era guitar?

Lawsuit era guitars are instruments produced in Japan between the late 60's and mid 80's that resemble Fender, Gibson and Martin guitars.

Yes drummerjohn333 those are the ones. I wanted a recording/rehearsal kit and the Premier Soundwave kit I had was just way too loud for the basement. Those Dixies sound as good as they look and I'm very lucky to have scored them.

As an added bonus I live about 20 minutes from the guy who had them for sale so I went and picked them up. He really has them dialed in, saving me a lot of time and headache re-assembling and tuning.

So you're pretty sure those are a Pearl set?

Welcome SpookyDave,

Yes, we are friendly, love to help each other, we are patient, etc. etc. .

But we have a, ummmh, let's say: a 'spleen'.

We want to see what we're talking about, always! :D

Please kindly send pics!
