You can make your own...!

I've got three different grommet tools; a cheap $5 tool... a $40 tool used for everything but Slingerland... and a $65 tool for Slingerland. I realize none of us want to spend money, but I have no regrets about paying $40 and $65 for the proper tool!

ive been considering getting a nice one too. I made one and used it several times. but the last two times things didn't go so well. where's the best place to get a good one at a decent price?

I finally broke down a bought the $40 model from Kentucky Drums...I will never go back to using my homemade tool again!! I like the results from the factory tool...

One for 3/8” & 7/16” eyelets; one for 7/16” & 1/2” eyelets

Jammin Sams sells a cheap one. its 2 or 3 bucks. It worked for me.

This topic has been brought up many times, in different sections. Most of us agreed that it is wise to spend the money for a quality tool! The $40 tool can be purchased from MyOldKentuckyDrums on Ebay. I believe there is another seller who offers it for a bit less.

I purchased the $65 Slingerland tool (which includes 5 aluminum grommets of your choice) on eBay. It's a first-rate tool for installing these grommets, but can also be used for tightening existing grommets of almost all brands.

If you do any type of drum rebuilding, or just want the correct tool, you'll benefit from one of these!

Yeah, I've used the $5 tool before, with decent results. However, it will NEVER work for the thick aluminum Slingerland grommets!

The trick to using the 'cheap' $5.00 tool is to use a 1/4" impact (air) wrench to

tighten the nut on the back of the tool. (I believe this was originally suggested

on this forum by Poppy??). A couple of short bursts and the grommet is tight

and uniformly compressed with no distortion.

I've used this method with great success on Ludwig grommets - to do the

Slingerland grommets properly you have to buy the $65.00 tool.
