Thankfully, mine was the opposite. I'm starting to think that some lazy sack at Gretsch was only putting the contact glue on one side only! Which explains why only glue on (either) the drum or the wrap, but not both - as it should be. All of the glue on my 50's kit was on the wrap, hardly any on the drum shell itself. It took me all of 15/20 minutes of light sanding to completely clean the shells. That -never- happens normally when stripping wrap from old drums. It's usually a mess!
