Gretsch Glass Glitter or Sparkle?

Loading...

Hi I just picked up an older SS badge Gretsch USA custom set with 14x18 bass, 12x8 tom and 16x16 floor tom. I wish to buy or order a matching 14x14 FT but I am not sure if the color is black sparkle or black glass glitter. Here's some pictures and maybe one or more of you can identify to wrap? I'd appreciated it!

It's probably a sparkle finish. Up close, it's easy to see glass glitters, so take a good look.

Thanks idrum4fun. After closer inspection the "sparkles" as I'm now calling them are all six sided and are small, med and large in size. Here's a better picture or two. I hope I can still get a drum made by Gretsch in this finish lol.

You definitely have a "sparkle" finish, which uses those 6-sided "confetti" pieces. I just went to the Gretsch website and checked out the finishes available for USA Custom. I only saw Black Glitter, but no Black Sparkle. What I would do is contact a Gretsch dealer and explain what you have and see if they can find out if Gretsch can still match the wrap.

Thanks Mark. Will see what I can do. The Black Glass would do in a pinch I guess but yes, I will see if maybe Maxwells or someone else can locate that finish for me. DW is running Gretsch now so they may not have all the previous finishes available to them. IDK. Thanks again. Love the drums!

The USA series are excellent drums! I have a 4.5x14, wrapped in Fiesta Sparkle, that I ordered through Steve Maxwell. One of the biggest questions everyone was asking was how does Gretsch wrap the shells. I posted pictures of my drum to show that since DW took over, Gretcsh wraps the shell all the way to the bearing edge and then does a notch cutback top and bottom to allow heads to float on the shell. Here's a few pictures!

Gorgeous Drum! Love Fiesta Sparkles and the Mardi Gras finishes. I'm thinking Maxwells is my best bet for a matching tom and snare for that matter.

Thanks for the compliment! Fiesta and Mardi Gras aren't for everyone, but I really like both. USA Custom, with the Fiesta Pearl wrap, is only available through Maxwell Drums. Good people to deal with!

All these wraps are made by Delmar. I'd check with Precision and see if they can get it. They do currently offer a black sparkle but I'm not sure if it is the same stuff or not.

I notice a patch under one of the lugs. What happened to the drum?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
