Gretsch Glass Glitter or Sparkle?

From leedybdp

I notice a patch under one of the lugs. What happened to the drum?

Are you referring to the OP's post, showing the rack tom? If so, from what I can see, it looks like some snare rash.

There's no patches, scratches nor rashes on that 8x12. It's like outta the box pristine. One tiny scratch on the back of the floor tom, easily buffed out if I want and smallish marks on the bass drum barely visible from the previous owner setting his drumsticks on top of it. Also easily buffed out if I want to.

Anything that looks like a patch or rash is just reflections or bad lighting in the process of taking the pictures.

Thanks for confirming this! It's obvious that you purchased a beautiful set of Gretsch USA Custom drums!

The rest of the kit. For the time being Im using a Gretsch New Classic in merlot sparkle for the 14x14 spot.

This is one of my other Gretsch kits I just got a couple months ago from a collector. It's probably my grail kit. Early to mid 1980s I'm guessing. Nice lacquer checking on the bass, a bit of snare rash on the mounted tom but that's okay for a kit heavily gigged for 20yrs I'm told. The sound is pure awesome to me.

So, Gretsch no longer offers Black Sparkle so one option I have is to order a 14” FT in Black Glass and see if it stands out from the rest of the kit or, ordering a stained maple Gretsch USA tom from a dealers warehouse shell bank and having them possibly wrap with the correct matching sparkle finish at extra cost. But I hate to end up paying more for one drum than I did for the rest of this kit lol. I snagged it in a hurry for $950 and threw in a nice Istanbul ride cymbal. Do you think the difference between sparkles and glitter would be too obvious? At this point I’m not even sure it would matter as long as the shells are the

same construction.
