George Way Casino Aristocrat

Loading...

This one was a little "bonus" that I didn't anticipate when I purchased a Cleveland-era Rogers Holiday kit in original Black Diamond Pearl (BDP) wrap some time ago.

I didn't anticipate that the kit came with a snare drum (since it wasn't listed as such), let alone a George Way Casino Aristocrat Model, which I had never actually seen in person until I got this one.

The drum measures 4 1/2 x 14 and features a lot of little "goodies" -- original winged George Way brass w/black enamal badge, eight Aristocrat lugs, original Aristocrat strainer and snare butt, chrome over brass double-flanged counterhoops, shell installed key holder & drum key and Camco worm drive muffler.

I couldn't be happier with this one. I honestly never thought I'd be in a position to find one of these, let alone afford one if I did, especially in the condition that it was in when purchased.

Kind of new to drumming and vintage drums so if this is stupid question I apologize. The DW lugs very similar to these - is there a relationship that you know of ?

I'm addressing 2 questions first, no the lugs that you see are the original turret lugs that george way designed, DW got this lug from camco after they bought the metal division of camco, second question, no those are camco rims!! that rogers copied!!

Craviotto is used "tongue in cheek" here, knowing he was working for DW in the early years of that company.

Well, I'm shocked that Rogers would do such a thing??

Lovely added bonus!!

I'm in the middle of refurbing a George Way kit right now and noticed that the shell I have (badge still firmly attached) did NOT have a keyholder (ala Camco).

When I asked a few learned people about that I was told that George Way snare drums did NOT come with keyholders, THAT was included later (only as) a Camco thing.

Thus, my curiosity is piqued about your drum! The throw is clearly George Way based on the handle style and (of course) that's a legit badge. Does the inside show any signs of drilling around the keyhole (or re-installation of the badge)?

I can't exactly tell from the pic, but the hoops also look to 'bead out' versus simply flanged. Aside from being worth a heck-uva-lot more, this indicates orignal and early Camco/Way style hoops to me.

Absolutely a great find (ummm, like maybe a $1200 find!?!?!). Congratz to you!

J.
