floor tom mounted cymbal arm ?

Loading...

Hello drum folks

I have my eye on a five piece U.S. Mercury drum kit

bass, snare, 12" and 13" mounted toms on rail and a 16" floor tom

the color is unique in that it appears to be a variation of maybe a black diamond pearl ..but not really ....anyway threaded within the mostly black and white pattern to the wrap are many other very beautiful colors

Aside from the unique color, is a feature I have never seen before

mounted on the side of the floor tom is a cymbal arm

the mounting bracket on the drum looks like the same mounting brackets

I have on a Whitehall BDP kit with a standard drum key adjustment screw

Have any of you MIJ peeps ever seen anything like this?

or was it added afterwards? ..the seller has had the kit since he was 10 years old

Thanks in advance Kenwood

I have seen it I'm pretty sure and I think Rogers did that too?

I think it's a great idea in theory, though you might get some unwanted sympathetic vibrations, as with the L-arm on an un-muffled BD.

The only reason I never did it when I had my MIJ kits is because I just never got around to it...:)

Rogers did indeed do this. The Cozy Cole model came with up to 4 mounts on the floor tom. Also their c0cktail sets to enable mounting of snare, tom, cymbals and percussion instruments (cowbell etc.) at the same time off the floor tom with a reverse direction drive pedal to use the tom as the bd. Very compact.

Really neat wrap. The floor tom cymbal arm holder surprised me - I expected it would just be another leg/cymbal arm bracket, but it appears to be from a whole different type of "system". Not replicated in the tom mounts or leg brackets...interesting.

Another nice score congratulations!

Thanks Mitch,

so are you thinking add-on ...rather factory ?

and with that, if it was added what do you think about three bills firm

down from 375.00

and again, I will need to pick them up from the same seller

along with my blue marine zims out in Metuchen New Jersey

Hard to tell if factory or not. I just looked again and is that L-arm a Rogers? It looks like their system with the collett and two [drum key] tightening screws. I had expected a straight arm coming up out of another leg bracket. If the L-arm is Rogers I think it is probably add-on by owner. But super neat and useful!

The wrap in these new pictures I see is even more beautiful than I thought. I don't think owner-mods really come into play, price-wise, with MIJ kits - they just kind of are what they are if you know what I mean. I'm in Canada where this stuff is always pricier than in the US, but $300 seems perfectly fine for this kit.

I think that wrap is called abalone. Other versions have more or less colors in them, but basically a BDP split into lines with various iridescent colors in it. That is a nice kit.

Hello again Mitch,

Yeah I can not figure if this cymbal arm is original

my gut feeling is that it was added at some point later on

It is neat and seems it could be very practical

and yes I do follow you in that they are what they are

The three hundred dollars is okay with me since the color is so cool

Hello teverson-sr

Thanks for the reply and also for putting a name to this wrap

I had no idea what it might be called.

with that said, and in doing a brief Google search

it seems that there are more than a few different looking wraps referred to as abalone.
