Filling holes with the original sparkle wrap.

Loading...

I have been experimenting on filling holes in a ludwig silver sparkle shell. This is a orphan shell that needs rewraping, no good drum were harmed in anyway. I tried filling some with glitter glue and then with epoxy mixed with large glitter. The results were fair at best. Then I filled a hole with the wrap from under a lug. This had much more desirable results,

heres the glitter glue repair. The silver glitter glue had a few other colors mixed in it.

Now I did something I have been thinking about for a long time and the results were almost perfect. The hole was a little over 1/4". I got a 5/16" hollow punch, a 5/16" dowel rod, and a 5/16" drill bit. drilled the hole to 5/16, cut a 5/16" plug with the hollow punch, and epoxy the dowel into the hole and glued the patch plug to the top of the dowel. Hammerd everything down even and removed my protective tape that I had cut a 5"16" hole in. I was very pleased with these results.

I heated the wrap with a heat gun to soften in up to cut the repair plug.

I got the wrap a little to hot, but i would have been under a lug so i wouldnt show.

That's a fantastic repair! What type of saw/blade did you use to cut such a thin plug? Did it get all splintery?

Interesting. You have to fill up the hole with the glitter glue. You don't see any of the wood or anything on mine. I will try to post a close up later.
