The hollow punches came from my shop. Now I have some here and at the shop. Ill dang sure check out utube and sharpen the new ones!! It's nice to have a drum to experiment with before I go and screw up the real project...

You can sharpen the hole punches yourself. There's quite a few vids on you tube of different ways to sharpen them. No need to go buy new ones when they get dull. Just a FYI on that. This is a realy cool thread and thanks again for taking the time to show and picture your process. My LBP floor tom has 3 extra holes from some the wrong leg mounts. I plan to try my hand at patching them thanks to your thread. Nice job. :)

All I could find on youtube was a bunch of women sharpening thier paper punches with aluminum foil or an aluminum can. Just punch through the aluminum and apparently it will sharpen the punch.

I got the holes patched in the 2 luddy silver sparkle snares. since I already had some old silver sparkle wrap I didnt have to get some from under a lug. I used regular short dowels. I had to grind the end of each one flat 1st. The 1st one had 2 extra holes. Here it is. I am very pleased with the way this turned out!! LQQK!

This second snare had 5 holes all together. Looks like someone didnt have a clue was mounting a different strainer to make it into a Jazzfest. I turned out pretty good also.......

On these two drums I drilled the existing holes out with a step drill. The hole I drilled was just a c' hair smaller than the plug. I expoyed the dowel into place then dabbed some expoy on top of the dowel. Sit the silver sparkle plug on top of the dowel and tapped in, actually forced it into place, thus eliminating any gap between the plug and the hole in the wrap/shell.....

The close up pics are with a macro lense btw......

Great repairs. Unless your looking for the holes it's hard to even tell they are there. Nice job.
