Would you happen to know the year? After reading up on this snare, I'm dying to play it. Wires weren't in too bad of shape , everything works but havn't played on it yet, see how it goes.

Haven't heard or played fiberglass in a very long time. Really want to get the whole set-up going and play them. Sneak 'em into a practice first haha.

BTW also ended up with some old Zilds too. First time I've come across any drums working at a home that I've wanted to take home...and buried in the corner of a dusty basement, was pretty cool.

have all hardware off drums intact, a lot of it is pitted of coarse but functional as is ...the stands have a blueish tint from oxidation, looks kinda cool too IMO.

Thanks again. Not sure how far I'm going as far as new drum hardware or restoring on toms and bass drums. Have a friend that can spray fiberglass but I'm also thinking wrap might be the way to go.

Any suggestion's?

Willing to put in all the time and elbow grease it takes to fix them up and play them, not looking to spend a lot on new and sell, if that makes sense. My practice kit, is an old off white Pearl export a friend found that was rusted and pitted,,I restored best I could and bought a used floor to match. Lotts of hours spent on that one lol, but great to lug around at practice( had also turned it into a hybrid acoustic /elec.kit ). It's gotten tons of use.

After it was up and running ,I donated my old original Pearl export double bass kit to an origination for kids without music classes in LA county. Great way to see off an old kit.

If they are all originally from the same set I'd guess that they are 1977 and later. Tubular tom mounts started that year. The previous tom arms were hex shape.

Personally, I would not paint them. You can not unpaint something. I would wrap them. One of the odd things I like about those sets is that the fiberglass is translucent. I have a set in blue satin wrap and light will pass through them. It is nothing spectacular like a Vistalite or Crystal beat set, but I do think that in certain light it gives them more of an interesting, lively look that I have not seen in other drums.

Be careful with the wires on the Jupiter. From everything I have read nobody makes a replacement for them. People that have them for sale (which is supposedly rare) want an arm and a leg for them.

Good point, like the wrap idea best myself, have to check some out.

I love the Pearl Jupiter! I play a similar snare, but without the parallel mechanism (and availability headache, as tris66 mentioned) & it's my favourite. As for wrap or paint, I'd go with a wrap.

I loved my Pearl fiberglass set. They survived cold and hot storage, falls down stairwells...a very sturdy shell. In time, mine needed a refresh. If you paint the shells, the big lesson that I learned was that fiberglass has millions of little holes that must be filled, I used automotive filler, and it worked perfectly...If you go that route. I bought all new lugs, the modern Pearl lugs fit perfectly and look fantastic. But the screws to mount them are designed for a thicker shell, so you need to buy a bunch of shorter screws.

Thanks for all the info.. Going to check out wraps and see whats out there. looking on this forum on cleaning up all the drum hardware. Will need rims for some of the drums.

@Rik---from far away they looked like old trashed wood shells, once I pulled them I realized they were fiberglass. Got home and was amazed on how easily the wraps came off and how great of condition the shells were in. It was a semi- shed open basement, guess they'd been there for years. Looks like the hi-hats and a ride are the hollow logo 80's cyms. 1 side of each one were still in great shape also. Going to start on the snare this weekend.
