This is the direction I had been leaning, but I know I have a tendency to panic when I see a drum I want. I have trouble being patient and viewing the situation logically because... hey, drums rule.

Yeah, you know, Zach, jhog always writes like he's entering the atmosphere in sputnik and his fingers can't translate the thoughts in his head.

Further - just go ahead and buy the drum. EVERYONE else has said don't fricken do it. End this thread already!

Well I will chime in and say that finding a 14x14 in champagne from the 70's will be no easy task. I'm willing to bet that if those holes were plugged off, small pieces of original wrap were used to fill the holes it would look pretty damn good. I'm not saying that the price is all that great but the seller probably knows that finding another is pretty damn tough. Heck there is a mod orange 14x14 from the 70's right now with rather large holes drilled around the leg mounts and the seller wants over $1300 bucks for it. I know it's mod orange and all but IMO the extra holes are pretty bad and look far worse than this drum.

Ya, I change my vote, buy the drum. Pay whatever he wants, then even drums with extra holes will be worth big money. I'm sure we all have or have had drums with extra holes that we had a difficult time moving. The next time one has a 14x14 with extra holes that won't sell at the price one wants, just refer potential buyers to ebay sold listings and the drum you bought will pop up at being sold for $740, that could potentially help the rest of us.

If you feel good about it, then that's all that matters. You don't need our opinions. You're right, another one in the finish you want at a better price may not come along for a long time. You know it will look and sound good and it will complete your kit.
