Ebay purchase.... I'm so disappointed

Loading...

I'm thinking it's worth $200. More to the right person.

UPS is coming to pick it up tomorrow to take it to their facility for inspection. I told the seller to read the rules at UPS.com for making a claim and prepare, prepare, prepare.

I was reading the rules and if you have the proper documentation they may give a generous refund.

If it was sold for $600 I could see the value of the kick/floor/rack being $300/$200/$100

Given the age and vintage nature of the drum and the fact that the shell was compromised, I would call it "not reasonably repairable".

His refund would be $300. That's a lot, I think.

If they were not orphans, you might argue the loss of the entire set because of the loss of the kick drum. But, that would be over the line in my opinion.

He might get lucky and get a full refund and they scrap the set.

It's very clear the way the steel leg bracket poked cleanly through the shell that it was dropped. It's not easy to ram a 1/4" bolt through a drum shell. It was dropped big time, I'll bet.

UPS may realize that and take the rap.

I have never dealt with UPS on a claim but I'll bet you'll be much better off if you have organized, well documented facts to present with your claim.

If there's one thing to learn here...please please use 2 boxes when you ship drum sets. I wonder if anyone has ever done a thread about how to properly pack a vintage drum set for shipment. if they did, it should be a sticky. LOL

Thanks again gang for the support through all this.

I have sent very well packed drumsets, and have received some of the same, several times over the last ten years. And only once have the boxes not arrived more or less round.

I'll call on you for your experience if I have to ship my Valjes.

Even one "round" box would not be acceptible - at least for me. there's no excuse for it from the sender's end of things. You don't have much control over it if some worker drops the box off the loading dock etc.Soap Box

So, I have yet to recieve even one box that was damaged in any way. Drums, that is. Now, I have much experience in shipping, both inbound and out, but lately, I am not getting the rounded boxes of old. Since June or so, every drum box has arrived with even the corners intact. Hey Gary, did you see on C/L some guy in Canada is selling his complete set, one of everything from the year they were built, and from the original handmaker himself, not the later sets that were more highly produced. I'll find a link later. He is asking 10 large.

The best shipping job I have ever received was the Rogers 64 Wine Red Ripple kit. The seller in Rejina Sask. Canada took the drums down to a local custom shop which professionally packed the kit, they wrapped each drum in thick bubble wrap, boxed it in a heavy grade cardboard box, which was then boxed in a second heavy cardboard box, and all arrived as they were sent. Hardware was seperately boxed. Cost was 300.00, but .... that was a 3,000 dollar drumset. I very much appreciated the care exercised by the seller to bring the kit to me in perfect condition. Worst had to be a cymbal which was inserted into folded over cardboard and taped. I had edge dings all around it. Worst drumset was packed very well, fortunately, the drums were not damaged, but the box arrived round. You could literally roll it up the driveway like a tire.

I do remember seeing a very nice drum on ebay a few years ago that had been damaged in shipping.... with a forklift prong hole completely through the shell.

I bought a Rogers Londoner with a chrome Dyna off E Bay.The seller brought it to a UPS store for THEM to pack.

When it arrived, there was a dent in the side of the box. Some genius had packed the frame side of the dyna RIGHT AGAINST the corrugated cardboard. The frame was pushed through the bottom head. The shell and rim were fine so,the seller filed w/UPS and gave me a credit to cover the cost of a new frame and head. But,goes to show you, this was packed at a UPS store!

I'm sure this guy would take $300 for the set. As, far as bad shipping experience for me....I only buy drums locally.:)
