Drumming injuries

I thought this would make for a good thread. Got any good stories about drum related injuries on the gig? HurtingHurting

I split a knuckle this weekend at a gig. Didn't notice it till after the set when my hand was sticking to the inside of my pocket. Woke up in the morning to see a big blood spattered patch on the top thigh area of the pants I was wearing! I never realized just how many times I hit hit snare throughout a given set... each one was "recorded" with a spot! Mallet Player2

I bruised my coccyx from playing on a less-than-perfect stool. It took me a LOOOOOONG time to heal. I had to locate and use a specialized throne to keep playing.

I blew out some connective tissue in my left wrist while playing. Had to get it scoped.

Broke a stick in half during a live show and it flew backwards and stuck into my arm. I finished playing the song stabbed and bleeding with a half stick hanging out of my arm.

While laying down a drum track in a studio in New York I sliced my hand on a cymbal in the middle of a take ... the keeper. I bled all over the enginer Marty's mics. He was so ticked off.

There are so many more stories. I've been doing this for over forty years and I've come to accept that I'm extremely clumsy behind the kit. God bless Tricare.

I met Han Bennik> (sp?) (famous Dutch Avant Garde drummer) in Amsterdam when I was there in 1988..........

He told me he has to pay a lady for the rest of his or her life,as he was playing once in a club, and the end of one stick cracked off,and shot off into the crowd, blinding her in 1 eye!

I am getting older (almost 42!) and was having some tennis elbow (repetitive strain ) on the left - snare arm. I was a bit worried and took up a routine of weight training and "glucosamine and chondroitin" tablets. 6 months later, now, I have no problem (knock/knock/knock)

I found my problem to be almost more from carrying around all the heavy equipment than the playing itself.

Moral of the story- as we drummers get older- you can never be too strong- weight training is goodsinger

I busted a knuckle once. The lead guitar had taken off and we were jammin our asses off. I was popping them rim shots and having a hell of a time. It split open and bled like a stuck hog!! I was done for that night, but there were plenty of drummers there that night. I have never done that again.

This is prolly common among drummers, but I still get the occasional hammy strains, and charlie horse in my calves...of course I play really fast double bass.

But the kicker is the night of my first show with my band....went to choke a cymbal and underestimated where my hats were...punched them right between my knuckles, and knocked them over. What a way to start a new stint with the first band Ive ever played drums for...
