Because if there's one thing that drummers demand, it's maximum resonance and sustain from their snare...

What about Molecules Drums? Anyone remember those? I don't think I ever saw anyone using them.

It seems to me that modern companies try to make their drums as resonant as possible and then sell you heaps of gadgets that muffle that excessive resonance.

Yes! So true! So maybe one of the worst ideas from a drum company was to remove the internal tone controls in an attempt to maximize resonance, and then offer a clip-on muffler to minimize resonance. Nice going Rogers! Why change something that had been working just fine for twenty years?

By far, one of THE WORST ideas a drum company made, was the arbiter flats drum kit. A drum with just a rim. Zero resonance, zero power, zero sense. And to add to the Ludwig absent mindedness, creating a replacement for the P-83,85 strainer with their new P-88, but not for P-32. Very "smart",Ludwig..

I'm actually looking for a kick drum from one of these. Tomorrow night I'm gigging in a bar that recently had complaints from new (and beheadable IMO) neighbours. I have 6 gigs there over the winter as well as about a dozen outside gigs in the winterbar of a german Christmas market with a tiny brass oompa/klezmer ensemble. For now I'm using a converted 16" floor muffled with a bit of bubble wrap inside, just enough so there is still a fundamental note left to hear. But an Arbiter kick would have fit the bill nicely as it's winter-proof & uber-portable.
