Donked Up WFL Floor Tom Help

From Creighton

Thanks, yes those drums lived in cases for 70+ years. Matters not. That is at least 20 coats of wax, with a hard polish every 3 coats or so. I think another 10 coats and I will be happy. Can't say how well yours will turn out. Slow and tedious polishing is the key. Creighton

Sheesh, 20 coats?! That's a lot! Would just a few coats be enough to protect the paint? I don't really need mine to shine quite like yours do. Your effort shows, though, they look awesome!

Also, what do you mean by hard polish?

Thank you for all your help!

Thanks!

Naw you won't need that many. 3 coats just buff excess off. Then another coat and then use more pressure to smooth everything out. Repeat if needed. You will be able to tell when you are done. Lots of clean micro-fibre towels.

Nothing special here but I like them.

Awesome, that's good to hear!

Well, since there's been no objections, I got some paste wax yesterday at the ol' hardware store. I'll start applying it sometime today hopefully. flowers2

Hey everyone!

Sorry it's taken me so long to post my final version of this drum. I fiiiiinnaalllyyy got around to taking some photos. ;)

Anyways, I ended up cleaning the drum and putting on about 5 coats of paste wax. Sadly, this process removed a lot of the paint, but at least the remaining paint isn't going anywhere now.

It might look ratty but the sound is pretty good! I put Aquarian American Vintage heads on both sides, and it sounds "round" and "warm." I've never tried these heads before though, so I really ought to put some ambassadors on it sometime to get a better idea of how the drum sounds compared to my others. D' Drummer

Here's a bunch of pics for ya: http://imgur.com/a/U0Sqa

Thanks again to everyone who offered their knowledge to the thread, I couldn't have done it without your help! Group Hug
