Re:gloss black. The other 3 drums and the snare are in killer shape. Just finished up the 13 tonight (12 and 13 done). Can't justify doing something like that to them.

The bass drum is the only issue with the kit. Id rather just get it looking as good as it can look and keep my eye out for a shell to replace it someday. Its a cool kit. I see myself playing this one for a bit. It wouldnt be worth selling since the bass drum would kill the value so much.

Plus I bet with all the "Custom Venting" going on on the bass drum...its gonna be something special! Extra dry and loud Laughing HDOH

What are you using to glue the pieces back together? Very interesting project, I hope you keep us all up to date as it proggresses.

I had a music store in Ann Arbor,Mich one time send a 26" Fibes BD and Tom to me...same finish.....

They put the 13" inside the 26.... With no padding!DOH

The BD was cracked to Hades....!

That's dedication. What type of adhesive did you use? I'd be scared that the bass drum would fall apart during a performance. Even with the reenforcing bands. I can only imagine the force/pressure being exerted on the shell every time you hit the batter head.

Precision Drum is an RCI International acrylic shell reseller. They have Smoke Starlite shells, which look like a good match.

I have a hard time wanting to spend 300 plus on a new shell for the kit. I'm more into playing the bass drum without hanging toms off of it---unless it turns out super strong.

Black paint on one of 5 drums I think would look kinda weird.

As far as the process goes, the chemical is called weld-on. Check it out. It's pretty amazing (and dangerous) stuff!

ALright dudes. She is done. At least as much effort as I am willing to put in. I have it all set up with the double tom mount and everything, and it seems to function just dandy. Not sure how many death metal shows it could handle, but I bet a few!

These pics are pretty lame, but as you can see, the repair turned out about as good as it could have. Ill try to get better pics when the light is better...maybe tomorrow or the next day.
