Converting Ludwig Standard to Luddy Classic

I used spray can. Actually you wouldnt have to tape off the inlay because it already has a protective film on it.

From BigE

I haven't done this, but maybe glue the inlay on first then tape the inlay off and paint? Did you use spraycans or your own mix? Sorry for the trouble you had. Cheers,BigE

Hes gonna paint them for me for free, but ill give hm something. he has a shop he does body work and painting on the side. Hes a hell of a painter. I send him business all the time. If its a insurance claim i can save the customer thier deductable and make myself several hundred. sooooo..... i cheated again!!!

flowers2No the're not leaves. it's made of orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit peel.

They smell good too. After a while they will change, and grow to this fuzzy black look called fuzzy wuzzy Mod........

Sorry this is after the hoops discussion but I haven't been getting updates from VDF with any regularity. Here are hoops I did in the last few months. ****Pic1 is existing inlays , but the hoops needed repainting. METHOD: took masking tape and masked the inlay and then sprayed hoops 3 coats black gloss, followed by 2 coats clear.Be sure to score the edge with utility knife blade before removing masking! This will assure that tape doesn't peel any paint.****Pic2 & 3 is a set of brand new hoops 12 ply maple. METHOD: brush on 3 coats of clear and then glue down inlay and finish with staples on the overlap. I have to say I prefer the natural maple look(and I already had 6 sets of hoops that were black.)

I Understand, This project was a total rewrap, therefore there really wasnt any need for taping off, which I did and was sorry, lol. I painted my hoops glossy black laquer, When I was getting ready to glue them, I taped off both sides to keep from getting glue on my new paint. Then I noticed Sam's tape on each end of the 4 strips, I thought about it and conceeded that the tape method can be a good thing!so I peeled mmy masking tape off and 1/2 of my new glossy black laquer came with the tape, so I threw my arms in the air and took em to steve. He didnt charge me a dime but i gave him $30. I shoulda just simply used the killer hibond tape JAMMIN Sam's had supplied on the strips in the 1st place. It was too easy the 2nd time.

When I got these 69 standard's they came with a 20" slingy(supposedly) bass drum. It has the rail on top of it for the counselette. I have this statue A friend of mine made and iits too low to the ground, so Im thinking Im gonna wrap this drum in something stunning and make a pedestal out of it.

Its gonna be fabulous Y'all!!!!! IF this aint a slingy please let me know

After experimenting with the JSam method & the Precision method I ended up using a combination of the 2 processes much like yourself. That includes using hi-bond tape for the seams, but gluing all the way and not "floating" wrap on the shell. If you have time, I would be quite interested in a how-to video on re-installing badges with impact gun. I'm sure we could all benefit from that. I've been using a wrench on the inside and allen wrench on the outside with near perfect results. Trick is to use scotch tape so badge does not "spin" or rotate clockwise while tightening. The other trick is to tighten down 3/4, then remove grommet tool, put a flat washer over the beveled bolt; then reinstall grommet tool and tighten it up, thus sucking down and flattening the grommet to flush on the interior of the shell.:)
