Cleaning Humberto Morales Timbales

Loading...

I have a set of Leedy Ludwig HM timbales from HEnry Adler's shop - still with original case. I am contemplating selling them, but I want to clean them up. I would assume brass polish is best, but I do not want to take that for granted. Can anyone help?

Cleaning them up is a job. For those timbales the best thing to clean them is buffing compound. Brass polish does nothing to them due to the heavy coat of lacquer they used to put on them.

Things to buy

Buffing pad for your drill

Paste wax

Polishing compound

Remove all lugs and inner plates name tags. Before you start to polish the drums make sure you are OUT SIDE OF THE HOUSE this will create a lot of dust.

Put some compound on the pad and run it across the shell side to side evenly so that you do not get any swirls on the metal. As it goes on drums will turn black an a shine will emerge from the drums. Do the same on the inside of the drums and they will turn out like new.

Do not attempt to use cleaning chemicals such as brasso or Noxon or any other they are a waste.

Here are two sets I have recently done one a Leedy before endorsed by Humberto Morales and the next a set of Rogers Humberto Morales in brass a very rare set to find.

Here you have the Rogers humberto Morales set, photos as I got them and as I went along in restoring them. Keep in mind these the previous owner sprayed lacquer I guess to stop the rust under the gly coat that companies put to prevent tarnish. If you find your self in a jam You can send drums to me and I will do at a charge of $250.00. and they will look like new.

Will do -THANKS

BTW - these are the tan label models. They belonged to my teacher who studied with Henry Adler and he was the opnly owner. HE family was nice enough to give them to me after his death. From your posts, I have read that these can be worth quite a bit. I am not sure I have all the parts to the stand, however.

> the previous owner

Cuco - In case you didn't know... the 'previous owner' of those Rogers timbales is Alex Acuna, drummer for Weather Report! Weather Report was huge in the 70's and Alex's drumming was innovative and trail-blazing in the Fusion genre. That set of timbales has serious provenance and added value because of who owned and played them. I believe Alex toured those drums! That set of timables has probably been played and heard all around the world. If I know Vinny, he gave you a killer deal on them. Enjoy them and take good care of them for future generations of drummers. Those tubs have some history attached!

John

Too many great drums to list here!
