I just acquired a bonanza of old, used Everplay drum heads, including pre-int'l size heads. Grime and dirt is pretty intense. Soap, water and elbow grease is only going so far. Any suggestions?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Are they coated or smooth. I am assuming they are coated. If they are smooth, any number of Goof-Off, Acetone, mineral spirits, etc would do the trick. Coated heads would be another issue altogether.

I read a post in one of the forums that in the very early 1960's, Everplay did not make coated heads, only the hazy heads. I tend not to believe the claim but: True? False?
For coated heads I have had reasonable success with Dishwashing detergent & soaking in a tub of warm water. (A soft nylon brush & Windex works for the hard bits).

I don't know if that is true, however, I believe I have only seen smooth white heads from them so possibly. Perhaps a lack of coating chipping off is how they got the name "EverPlay Extra?" I am sure one of European brethren will jump in here and let us know.

No any troubles with ordinary dishwashing detergent and warm water --- as new after cleaning (two months ago --- EP tom 11.7/8" head 1968').
George.
Avoid any chemicals, you could damage the mylar. Soap and water, light scrubbing.
How many do you have? I'd be very interested in buying some from you.
In my limited experience, all the Everplays I saw in the day were smooth white heads. I still have a couple of more recent Everplays--also smooth and white. They are much easier to clean than coated heads.
It does strike me as odd, considering how many jazz players used Premier that Everplay didn't issue a coated head for brushwork.
