Classic Premier Drum Kit

Loading...

I have just sold a premier kit on eBay. The purchaser has since given me a load of abuse and stated that the drums are worthless. The issue is the existance of spare holes on the bass drum shell to rearrange the mounting of the tom and cymbal from left to right handed. When I purchased them, some 15 years ago, the drummer informed me that the holes were for changing the configuration of the tom and cymbal. Since he had purchased them new, I naturally assumed that they were standard from manufacture, and still do. The holes are obviously professionally done by vertue of their shape to match exactly the shape of the mounting brackets.

Can anyone confirm that these hole are standard from manufacture, so that I can put his mind at ease.

Thanks,

Gareth

I think the problem is..you only posted 1 picture to sell the drums, and it was taken quite a ways away...

I have seen this on many, many UK eBay listings..

1 pic...when you can put up 12...I don't understand...

Then..the listing will say something like......

"Old drumset.....sold as is"...

Doesn't tell/show me much,does it?

Well, the ball is in his court now...since there could be extra holes..you might have to refund money..

Why don't you do this? Shoot us some closeups of your drums,so we can actually see if there are extra holes/problems? Can't tell squat from this pic...

photos of extra holes are always a good idea but I found the listing and it's not that bad Blair. Buyers can ask questions. Great finish and the drum key alone is worth a bit.

If he returns them you could sell the components separately and probably make more.

... and for the buyer to say it's worthless is a bit rich. Take this sold tom in the same finish for example. It's international size and I'm not sure if your one is though.

The listing though doesn't mention holes nor is there a clear photo of them. I'd say fault lies 50/50 between seller and buyer. I'd offer the guy a few bucks. They aren't worthless and still worth the price the buyer paid though.

The later, redesigned lugs, b.d. claws and tom mount would indicate international size.

Thanks Ron, I hadn't looked closely enough.

The English (I'm English BTW) have it pretty good. Some guy pays less than $400usd for a quality kit that's every bit as good as a USA made equivalent, in a great finish and in international sizes, and then thinks he's got a raw deal and a worthless pile of drums due to some extra holes on one drum. Meanwhile many English buyers will pay more than double that figure plus shipping and duty for a Ludwig kit from America with a few extra holes, maybe a re-wrap even. I think it's about time the English vintage community started valuing their own drums as much as their American counterparts value theirs.

That said, if the buyer was told that the kit was original and undamaged then he has a right to be annoyed I guess. Still a great kit for the money.

Sorry,

I saw this set on eBayUK..and thought you only put up the 1 pic....as so many do on there...

Guess I am getting rather ****ed off that they keep doing that ,and might have taken it out on you...

I just bought the exact same kit/same finish around 1 month ago,but mine has the 5 by 14 MATCHING wood 2001 model snare..just like Mitch Mitchell used on the first Hendrix LP..

I just need to get a smooth white Remo for the front of the BD..and she will be done!

Cool finish...looks just like Ludwig Oyster Blue...maybe Prem even got it from the same Italian supplier...?

I am the buyer and these are the holes. A real shame as this kit has great sizes and that famous finish but these are not factory-fitted holes - Premier may have done some strange things but not this. Anyway the seller has agreed to cancel the deal so I apologise for getting upset all round but these issues should have been flagged up high in the listing. Yes, I could sell the other drums and part this one out, but that is not why I bought the set.
