Classic Premier Drum Kit

Fair enough David.

I may not be seeing it right but the holes on top look like they were for another factory tom mount. It wasn't originally a 303 configuration? The other holes could've been for a cymbal mount but not right for a 303, I know. Whilst the holes look a bit rough I seem to remember the 2 kits from this era that I've totally stripped down had holes like this under the mounts - hand done. In one case the they had drilled the mounting holes so close to the main hole on the tom mount that the holes had joined. I don't have any photos but I have my 202 kit in the studio that I could check.

VEDDY Interesting!

I will post pics of my Oyster BD later today...kind of looks like the tom mount holes were "hand done" also.....

BTW..the same day my drum set ended on eBay US...a Oyster set ended on eBay UK for the same kit, sans snare, but had the "tuna can" <(love that name!) 8 by 14 tom with it...in that ad..he stated that there were "extra holes " too I recall...

If I had an extra $700-800 >(with shipping) lying around...I would have bought them too...

What is the deal? Every Premier kit has to have extra holes?

I have 3-1/2 kits here right now...all have extra holes,I think.

Didn't Moonie's even have extra holes from Rogers mounts?

I think this was once a normal 202 that someone drilled to make left handed - then sold on saying "they all came like this". Not so. In fact unless you bought a catalog kit everything came un-drilled back then (it did when I bought new in '62 and again in '68) and the dealer would fit the hardware you wanted. Hardware then was so terrible that people added and swapped all the time. Hence the terminally black-and-deckered nature of most old Premier stuff, Small holes I can live with like a moved Ludwig rail mount - but this era of Lokfast brackets left massive holes such as you see here.

David, you are obviously an old Premier hand!

I bought my first set in Rome in '63. The dealer installed the tom mount on the b.d. to my specs. I'm a lefty.

The earlier mount required only 3 small bolt holes.

David - you didn't by chance check under the other mount to compare drilling styles? I'm pretty sure my 202 looks like this under the single mount. Surely the factory would drill the holes for a single mount 202? So the OP, or the next owner more likely, could just fit a second mount and it'll be a 303 without the 14" tom? Find a 14" tom and you're sorted, except for the cymbal mount.

BTW, I love my 202 kit and was playing it last night. It's not the mintiest kit I own but it's my favourite to play.

as promised....

first 3 are 20" BD..

last 2 are my rare 2001 snare..

I have to ask...what keeps the throwoff parts on this drum?I am ready to re-assemble...and can't for the life of me figure how the parts "lock" on...

Is there a site showing this?

Thanks
