Cb -700 restoration

Got these drums at a estate sale for 20 bucks. Someone started a restore on them but I guess they gave up

How it came :

22 bass drum. Missing 8 lugs and came completely stripped. Also missing the majority of the t rods and claws. One 22 steel bd hoop included

13 rack Tom. Complete with everything but the wrap was half ripped off. No Tom mount included

14 rack Tom missing some bottom lugs . Bottom hoop , wrap was torn off half way

16x16 ft. Only batter side hoop but had all lugs. Wrap was whipped

The sale was asking $30 but there was a kid there banging on them very obnoxiously so I jumped in and asked if I could take them for $20 !

Since the drums were already half way stripped I decided to fill all of the mount holes on the toms and bd and I stained them with polyshades stain. I'm still in debate on if the drums will sound better if I put something on the inside shells. I heard these drums are 70s made by pearl and are decent shells.

Anyone have knowledge on these things ? I tried to search cb700 but there were only a few threads on the drums.

CB-700 is basically overseas-made beginner-level drums and not worth a heck of a lot in the first place. Having said that, they're probably among the best overseas-made beginner-level drums on the market. For $20 down and maybe $100 of parts, you'll have a nice enough beater kit. But if you tip the restoration budget over $300, know you spent way more than they were worth.

Those are great drums!

I'm in the process of restoring a kit just slightly newer than yours, with the generic Pearl lugs. I've restored two early CB 700 kits, with the early lugs like yours, and sold them. They are luan, and have the luan 'thing' going for, or against them (depending on your point of view).

The hardest thing is going to be to find those lugs, but it is do-able. Ask here on the forum, and watch eBay and Goodwill for donor drums and parts.

Here's pictures of the two I sold. I stripped and painted the 'copper' kit, the yellow one I cleaned. The one I'm working on now, I stripped and am painting. The copper kit is standard sizes, 22 inch bass, etc... the yellow is a 24 inch bass.

Glad to hear someone else is doing the same to these old drums! That yellow set you have is clean!

Don't really want the cymbals but if anyone has a 10 or a 12 inch rack Tom ill take it

Also still in debate if I want to try to find the missing lugs for this kit or just get different ones. I was actually thinking of using 70s era Rogers lugs since they aren't too expensive and should be the same hole spacing
