Carmine Appice's Thermogloss kit, late 60s Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Besides being a historic and beautiful kit, this kit is special because it appears to be the one that led to or influenced Bonham's first endorsement kit.

Interesting details of Carmine's kit is that the bass drums were 16x24 and 18x24?.

I believe that Bonzoleum has made the claim that Bonham played a 16-in deep thermogloss kick as well. That seems plausible now.

Maybe it's just me, but the bass drums look like they're 14 and 16-inches deep, not 16 & 18-in deep. Neat kit regardless.

Bought for 25 grand in 2002??? I find that hard to believe but I guess we could check with Carmine.

Very interesting technical details, like the 20" BD converted to a floor tom?

My guess is that Carmine sold him the kit for $ 2500.00

Not 25,000.

For 25,000, you should get a weekend of personalized instruction from Carmine.

In Maui.

I find it hard to believe that the ten lug is a 24" and the twelve lug is also a 24" Sitting next to each other, they are clearly different sizes.

Sum Ting Wong from China told me.

The claws and rods are missing on both BD`s they are not shown in the pics. They should at least come up with them for that price.

I noticed that too .. It looks like they could be one 24" and a 26".

In Geoff Nicholl's book on Bonham,"A Thunder Of Drums",(which i have) it states that when Carmine helped him get the endorsement,, Bonzo asked for the exact same kit in the exact same sizes, only with 2 26" kicks. On the advice of Jimmy Page and manager Peter Grant, he had to get rid of one of them if he wanted to, -quote from Peter Grant- "Keep your job"..

Apparently Bonzo was getting trigger happy with the two monster bass drums and was "all over the place" when playing live.. Page and Grant wouldn't have anything that would affect their live performance negatively, so hence his classic set up of 1 up and 2 down..

Imagine he would've been allowed to keep that 2nd kick??.. The iconic set up would've been a different kit !

Looks like Sum Ting Wong from China may be right ! :D

Ya his wife, Clair Lee Wong, also a drum expert usually backs him up.

Let's put things in perspective.

If this drum kit costs you 25 thousand dollars, you are going to have to give the guy

$ 4166.66 Appice.

Fun aside, the last pic with badge ending 113, has a high gloss finish while the two next to it have a satin finish.

Does anyone know if Carmine put this kit together a piece at a time ?
