I'm just hoping that there is a member of this forum with some knowledge/experience of these vintage Carlton snares that can help me out here. I'm desperately trying to establish how the snare wire is fitted to this drum and if there are any parts missing.

Ok, it has been disputed that this snare drum is not of the 'parallel throw-off' type but I still trying to find someone that has some knowledge of vintage Carlton drums.

I believe that there is some type of screw missing (see images 9 & 10) that is meant to pass through that hole and connects to the snare wire but I am unsure how this is done exactly or what this missing part even looks like, especially the end that would be housed within the clam itself.

And I assume that there is a roller bar absent from the butt plate (see image 14) which I'm guessing would resemble the type that is present on the throw-off side (see images 11 & 12 )?

I have made inquires on various forums hoping that someone could offer me some insight into to this matter and I have scoured the internet for any photos that could provide me with a visual reference, but my pursuits have so far been in vain.

I am missing a similar roller bar on the throw end of a John Grey, and am figuring on taking the one off the butt plate and looking around some of the more esoteric hardware places. (Probably a lost cause given threading etc,). I will check back in if lucky.

I have seen a similar pic that confirmed for me that there was indeed a screw or something missing from that throw-off section. What I need to establish is what that 'screw' part actually consists of, what it looks like on the other end within that clam, and how the snare wire is attached.

Likewise, I need to find out how the snare wire is meant to attach on the opposite side of the drum.

Just seeing this thread now. I have a similar carlton snare and have recently taken off the snares that came with it because I am desparately looking for a new strand myself. Here is a picture of what the snares look like on both ends that hold together by screws, very unique. The end with two holes have screws that kind of make them free floating with bolts within the butt plate. The long screw that is attached to the snare strand screws into the strainer hardware through a bolt on the other side and I will take a picture of that late on.
