What is the difference in tone between these two types of snares, both are expensive from what I see selling on e bay.......would like to invest in one when my ship comes in.....has anyone played either of these or both?

I tried out a carbon fiber snare at a local music store but I need to qualify my comment: 1. The drum was -cranked- tuning-wise, much higher than I ever tune a snare and I tune them high. With the snares off, it almost sounded like a bongo. 2. The wires were over-tightened on the drum. When I attempted to loosen the snares a bit, the sales guy had a conniption. The snares were so tight and the tuning was so high, the drum was completely choked, dried out and tight, sounded like a box. I didn't like it. I am pretty sure however, that if I had been able to properly tune the drum, it would have sounded much better. Never played a titanium snare so I can't comment. The one carbon fiber shell one I did play, sucked.

Ti drums are dry as sand. Some like that sound,i dont. To each his own,but Ti drums remind me of Dunett, and imo he,s lower than dog poop on your shoe. I despise that little dweeb!!

Wayne, just curious as to why you have those comments about Ronn. I've chatted with him various times and found him to be nothing but a gracious person.

As far as snares go....I like the Spirit of New Orleans snare (Stanton Moore's signature Ti), others I've heard are dry, but the SONO I found to be quite pleasant. Carbon Fiber I have not tried, but from what I've heard it's very nice.

I'm more of a metal snare kind of guy too.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

It all goes back awhile, but when i found out he is a thief and a liar and it was proven by SO MANY people,i found him to be pathetic by the way he tried to crawl out of the situation he built for himself. Im on his DS forum and he still makes me puke by his attitude!...He,s a fake like a 3 dollar bill.

"Some of these posts are not like the others, some of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which posts are not like the others. By the time I finish my song?"

Ahem, carbon fiber vs. titanium... can we please get back to the topic? I'd like to hear others opinions.

On the drums... not, Ron Dunett.

Talk about taking a bad left turn! Eye Ball

I hear ya Purdie, but like BBK, I wonder about wayne's comments too. It's not his first disparaging remark about Ronn Dunnett, wayne's written a few of 'em.

It's a great topic on a Vintage Drum Forum since it's hard to find vintage carbon fibre & titanium, sorry had to say it, bad joke ;)

Anyways, I've got a Tempus 5x14 CF, that like fibreglass, sounds alot "woodier" than you may think and cranked up is really crisp and clear, great for recording.

Also have a 6.5x14 Titanium Ludwig "Chief" that I received as a shell and put some tube lugs on it, it is dry, but does'nt have to be.

Just trying to put it back 'on-topic.' Vintage or not, it's a good thread question and I'm curious to hear others reviews.

Some people you can learn to tolerate, but over the years i find it difficult with that punk. I wont bring up the past and i should,nt continue to bring his name to the front,he does,nt deserve it. Before you judge me and make me the bad guy,ask yourself why he,s banned from most drum forums.I understand there are many here banned from DS as well as other forums, but they can be tolerated. A thief and a compulsive liar from any walk of life gets NO respect from me...ever..........I much prefer carbon shelled snare drums, for what its worth.Much livlier.

I have a 4.5X14 Titanium snare. It was one of 4 prototypes built for Stanton.

I got it un-drilled so I was able to put the hardware of my choice on it. I used GMS lugs. It is 10 lug instead of the typical 8 lug of most Dunnett's.

It is the best of all my snares. It has a fat but crisp sound to it. It sounds much deeper than you would expect from a snare this depth and is full bodied, no dryness here. It is part of my Titanium kit, which is also great sounding.

I have played a few carbon fiber snares, and found them to be not of my liking.

I am not saying they are bad, just not my sound. Most were tuned very tight, and I wonder if that is the direction the shell lends its best sound to. They were very bright and dry. Might be good for playing 70's funk (Average White Boy sound). That said....I have a carbon fiber shell that I plan to someday build up and see if I can get it to have "my sound".
