Car buffing compund/polish for old wrap?

I've gotten involved in a friend's project of spiffing up an old set of very low end kit. It has a blue sparkle wrap... it has a texture to it along with the sparkles.

I'm thinking of using a mild buffing/polishing compound (car stuff) and an orbital buffer.

Any thoughts? Good products to try??

I have one extra drum that I can experiment with....

Like McGuire's? Some moderately aggressive 'scratch remover'?

I would use Novus scratch remover. It really seems to dig into it and remove scratches and other nasties that have built up over the years. I was going to use a clearcoat polish compound but its better to be safe than sorry right? I also don't know about using a buffer, it seems rather risky although if you are careful I am sure it will more than pay off.

Novus is a new name to me -- thanks for the tip. I'm not really expecting miracles--just want to take off the dirt and crud, and add a little shine.

The polisher is easy to use - electric, random orbital with a foam pad.... it's be hard to do any damage with it!

I have had great results when buffing wrap. I use Meguiar's ultimate compound and have had the best results with a sponge pad. Obviously be careful around the seams so you don't lift/crack the wrap, but it looks awesome when finished.

Also, if using a power buffer, always keep it moving and set at a low speed so you don`t "burn" the wrap...

I recommend Novus...It`s available on ebay and other online stores for fairly cheap...Works great too!!

Excellent -- I'm pretty sure that's available at, say, Wal-Mart - if not, a nearby auto parts store....

This is going to be a low end kit when I start, and when I finish - but it'll look cool.

Actually, interesting sizes: 20 x 16, 13x9, 14x14 and 16x16. Rail mount, cymbal L arm. Cool sizes, it'll be a fun kit for someone!

I'll also see if I can find Novus -- should available at parts stores, yes?

Yes...Or I think someone mentioned earlier on another post that it is available at windshield repair shops...

Cheers
