Can You Guys Help Me With A Vintage Sling Purchase?

Loading...

no problem MichaelSJ

I really do not follow Buddy's stuff. I have been putting together an article for Tommyp that has been on the back burner for awhile... I hope 2008 is the year it gets completed! Cool Dude

I do have a lot of catalogs and catalogs on disk to look through, so it makes it easier for me to go to the literature...

The true BR collector will pick every fine detail to make sure the drums in question are the drums Buddy actually played (not physically played of course, drums that he actually owned are in another price point all together)...

The set that sold for $3700 in my opinion was a great price! That included the cymbals, stands and throne... This is the first complete BR set I have seen in many years and the first in this condition...

They just do not come around for sale...

In regards to the BDP slingerland, it is a 6 lug snare in a finish that is not as collectible as other finishes... This is my opinion of course... Others love BDP.. The price to me is maxed out for a 6 lug drum.. Factor in the stand and the case and then the drum is at a better price point.

Here again there are poeple that prefer 6 lug snare drums, but from a collectors standpoint the color and lugs make a difference...

There are much better deals out there, you just need to keep looking...

MichaelSJ!...

Actually, you are pretty close... Buddy went over to Slingerland after leaving Rogers, and AFTER Trixon/Vox and Fibes, although BR never "officially" endorsed Fibes, he did play/gig on a complete Fibes COF kit... and as we all know too well, the Fibes SFT 690/COF snare drum remained in place as a BR favorite DURING his endorsement period with Slingerland, much to the consternation of Don Osborn Sr!... but again, I digress. Anyway, I have researched an ACCURATE BR endorsement timeline, and given that, Buddy hooked on with Slingerland in the late summer of 1967. So, you were close!

YES DAVID!!!! This is the year for the BR article... I can feel it!!!!!

MichaelSJ!... I have what you seek... complete!... Would you be so kind as to email me at my main email address? Or send me a PM if you need that address, and we can go from there.

Hi Joeybeats,

I've got a vintage slingerland kit that you might be interested in. It's a 1958 Slingerland Gene Krupa Deluxe 4 piece in Gold Sparkle finish. The hardware is all nickel plated, and is in amazing condition. The snare has the single ply maple "radio king" style shell, with perfect working clamshell strainer. The only difference between these and the radio kings is that they don't have the engraved rims, and slingerland wasn't even making radio kings in 1958. The kick and snare have the early gold and black chicago badges with the connected script S's. (1956-1959). The toms of this era didn't have badges. The kick, rack, and floor are 3 ply shells with maple rerings. All the hardware is 100% original on these drums. I also have an extra strainer throwoff arm from drumatixs, and snares from puresound, which are currently on the snare so I can play it without worrying about the originals. The drums sizes are 22" x 14", 13" x 11", 16" x 16", and 5 1/2" x 14". The gold sparkle wrap is not faded or marred at all. These drums came from West Texas, and must have been stored for many years, because they are in incredible original condition. I have the matching slingerland hi hat stand with original clutch, with krupa on the pedal, a matching slingerland AA kick pedal, and a flat bottom slingerland snare stand from the first year these came out, which came with the set. I also have the two original shell mounted cymbal L-arms, the bass drum rim mounted muffler, and a rim mounted wood block mount with original woodblock. All of this came with the kit originally. I am more of a player than a collector, and these are way too nice for me to drag around to clubs! I am currently putting together a early 70's slingerland kit to do that with, with rewrapped shells. I also have some round badge gretsches to play out with, which are more of a player's kit, condition wise. This slingerland kit would be great for a collector/enthusiast who would keep them indoors in pristine condition. If you're interested, PM me and I can send you some pics. It will take a day or so because of the holiday, and I still need to take the pics. I would much rather sell them on here than on ebay or craig's list or something.

Best,

Brian
