KUDOS to the Camco three amigos. (Slingalud, Stedi and Stallwart)

They also helped me with my set with parts and knowledge.

Great guys to deal with.

Good luck with your restore.

Check out this parallel Camco thread.....Dan Boucher comments further down about having a floor tom leg mount as a rack tom mount. Worthwhile getting some pix, perhaps.

And now we're talking about it suddenly there seem to be kits coming out of the woodwork with the floor tom mount on a rack tom. Check out this drool-worthy moss green outfit.....essentially a rail, Ludwig style "horn" straight into the mount.

Also check out the silver sparkle inlay on the bass drum hoops. Not unheard of but unusual. As ever, whatever you wanted.....

Thank you Antipodes. So I am getting the the idea that these drums could be ordered however you want them. Do you think they ordered the kit with a Ludwig rail mount? I would say from looking at mine that it was ordered without any mounts at all and the store or the owner installed the Ludwig parts.

Well I finally ordered a batter head for the bass drum and Stedi's rods should be here soon. I got the claws a few days ago, they look great. So that all said, these drums are going to be set up and played, finally!

Thank you!

There's conflicting info about how custom Camco actually was, particularly during the Oaklawn period.

There's anecdotal evidence that you could get the factory to fit Rogers and other hardware (you'll see Dennis Wilson's kit, for example, with Swivo-matic fittings) but also stories about many shops offering to get in "virgin" Camco drums which they would then fit out with the hardware of your choice. I'd be betting probably a bit of both at different times.

Just straight off that rail mount looks like standard issue Camco (Wahlberg & Auge?) with a Ludwig-style "horn" and a Camco floor tom mount on the rack so nothing that surprising on this green kit.....except the floor tom doesn't have those same classic floor tom mounts....they're something totally different...and something I've never seen before - apparently with Ludwig legs.

The only thing I wanna mention is that if you look at the flange around the FT bracket, (left side of photo 1) you`ll see it goes all the way around the mount, prolly a half inch wide. If you look at the tom mount and cymbal arm mount, it don`t, it only flanges at the top and bottom.

I think they are not leg brackets but designed to match somewhat. Easy to mistake one for the other.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I did get the drums set up, well kind of. The snare drum needs the correct snare wires, I cant get *** sound good with the hooky set up the way it came. So for now, I played them with my bop jazz fest. I like the drums but I need to spend more time tuning them, they are no better sounding than my Ludwigs at this point.

Thanks again to Stedi for getting me the t-rods so fast, what an improvement!

And thanks to the other guys who helped out, I have run out of money for this project for the time being so I will play them with holes and everything for now.

They look great Jeff.

I’m happy that I was able to help you out with the BD T-rods.

I wish I could have done it cheaper.

In case you would like to install another reso-head, the BD-logo decals should arrive any day now.

What heads do you have on them Jeff?

To my ears, the best heads for them are Remo coated A’s on top and Remo Clear A’s on bottom for the toms. On bass drum Remo Coated PSIII for batter and a smooth single ply on the front.
