Camco Oaklawn Aristocrat Blue Moire

Loading...

I picked this kit up in December and finally got around to finishing it a couple weeks ago after finally deciding on the bass drum inlay. I braved a blistering Florida afternoon and snapped some pics today. A lot of pics.

This is probably an early to mid 60's Oaklawn Aristocrat with original Blue Moire wrap, interiors and edges. It is a 20/12/14 with matching 701 Super snare drum. 6 feet rule applies to the wrap on this one, it's pretty rough up close but not enough for a re-wrap in my opinion. Took it down to the shells and cleaned and polished every screw, washer, spring, etc. Also went the Scrubbing Bubbles route for cleaning the wrap. Discovered the awesomeness of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers for cleaning the interiors.

The kit is almost complete. Missing a dozen chubby washers and a couple small parts for the parallel strainer on the 701 Super. Haven't had a chance to drive the whole kit since I put it back together, hence the brand new heads. This wasn't an easy one but I'm pleased with the results.

Beautiful Dan, congratulations !

That's a very early Camco kit so you're probably looking at 1961-1962.

The lugs on the 12" are placed much closer to each other than on "standard" Camco Drums. Also the mount plate is not in the center of the shell. Those are two things you normally see on George Way drums so it's probably a set produced very soon after the take-over in 1961.

Really nice work Dan. Very cool wrap color. I guess you got the snare drum all sorted out? I remember (think it was you) a few questions about possible missing parts? Unless I'm thinking about someone else? Either way congrats and enjoy!

Glenn.

Excellent work, Dan! The beauty of satin flame (moire) finishes is that they hide scratches really well! Your kit looks great!
