The sound of a floor tom depends highly on the condition of the top and bottom rings !! Those look damn near perfect !!

Hi Oddball,

I left the edges untouched. They look pristine.

As a matter of fact, the entire set is in A+ condition.

It has a couple of scratches in the paint but I'm quite sure the kit has never been gigged.

I found the set in a basement under a blanket. The owner told me that it has been there since the late eighties, early nineties.

I just ordered some new heads so can't wait to try them out !

For now, I ordered a set of coated Ambassadors.

All ideas welcome regarding head choice,...

More progress on the cleaning,...

For those not very familiar with Camco, I took a few close ups of the muffler.

It's quite an extraordinary piece of engineering and operates absolutely brilliant. The mufflers and tom mount cleaned up nicely.

In the mean time I ordered: Camco logo for front head, 12" and 13" hoops and heads.

Further development will follow next weekend.

OK,...

Hoops, heads and logo arrived.

Here's the result, hope you all like it.

The buzz in the toms came from the springs in the lugs so I added some felt inside,... problem solved.

I also took John's advice and put some special feet on the floor tom, great result !

The 2 tiny holes in the 12" tom from the Rogers mount were plugged and retouched with matching paint.

Everything said about Camco drums is true so as expected,... the kit sounds like a million dollars,... they just sing !!!

Wow Stef...what a great kit! I don't know how I missed this thread. You Sir, are gaining quite a collection. Does this make kit #5 or 6?

Stef - So kool man! You really did well. Not only did you save a rare set of drums, but you now own/play some of the very best sounding drums ever made in the USA. Something about the combination of the Jasper maple shells with the unique Camco bearing edge profile (much better head/shell contact) that makes for a very warm and resonant sounding drum.

Enjoy them my brother. Enjoy them for many years to come.

John - Fellow Camco lover

Too many great drums to list here!

Fantastic restore!

You can put those "special feet" on the BD spurs also I have heard........

"Always make sure your front bottom BD lugs clear the ground!"
