I have heard the old stories of drummers burying their cymbals in the back yard for a few months to improve the sound. Has anyone on this site every done it? I really want to do this, just to check it out. I have a new K ride that I want to toughen up. Is this crazy? My wife said I should talk to you guys first before I do something stupid.
HI, Super B > I HAVE DONE THIS WITH MANY CYMBALS, I BOUGHT A MUSIC STORE CYMBAL INVENTORY OUT 10 YEARS AGO, AND TOOK MY NEW CONSTANTINOPLE K ZILDJIANS AND BURIED THEM, YOU WANT TO DO THIS IN WARN WEATHER NOT COLD ALSO YOU ONLY HAVE TO JUST GET THE DIRT ON THEM TO COVER THEM UP NOT BURY THEM VERY DEEP, AND KEEP THE GROUND MOIST, AFTER A WEEK DIG EM UP AND CLEAN THEM OFF AND GO PLAY THEM IF THAT IS OR IS NOT THE SOUND YOU WANT GO PUT EM BACK IN THE GROUND AGAIN, IT WILL CHANGE THE COLOR AND THE SOUND DRAMATICALLY, THERE ARE SOME OTHER TRICKS I HAVE LEARNED BUT I WOULD HAVE TO KILL YOU, SO THEY STAY WITH ME, IT REALLY DOES WORK, HOPE THIS IS OF HELP, I HAVE USED THIS METHOD FOR A LOT OF OTHER COLLECTORS, IF YOU WANT ME TO USE MY TECHNIGUE, I WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE YOU AS IT IS LABOR + TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE, GOOD LUCK, MARK
