Loading...

Hello,

I wondered if anybody here might be able to help me figure out the back story behind this drum? I was donated a load of old drum gear years ago and never really went through it properly. Now moving house and need to make a decision on whether to keep or not.

Boosey & Co.

Aluminium shell

Gut snares

As I understand it Boosey and Hawkes was founded in 1929/30 so that makes the drum earlier than that. Very cool drum.

Seems I can, offer some more help,

Rare and collectible I'd say..

I believe it is a 1927 vintage, the link here takes you to it's only, slightly younger sibling, (Serial number 13962)

(It would be nice to see pic's of any other inscriptions on the drum EG Tone Control, Emergency Key?)

Cheers

guyjones!

I can help you with your decision, sir! Under no circumstances should you keep that relic! It is probably really dusty and you'd have to spend hours polishing it to make it presentable. Way too much work, especially around this busy season. You could, on the other hand sell it to me! It would be a wonderful Christmas gesture on my part!

One more thing.. I think the guy on the punch and hammer was an ex Zildjian employee..

:)

Thanks so much for the info and responses, guys. Will put up some more pics at the weekend. There is one other inscription reading "Emergency key" and what I imagine is some sort of holder for the key – but no actual key. I may have been wrong about the gut snares too. Can't actually tell... any tips on how to identify?

How can you tell the punch and hammer man was an ex-Zildjian guy? Very interesting!

Thanks.

Guy, :) just my attempt at Humour, it was re the depth of the lettering.. In particular the serial number... "like he had a heavy right hand"..

Look forward to seeing some more pics..

Cheers
