Black Beauty - Bucket List Drum

Loading...

Couldn't say no on this summer purchase. One of my bucket list drums. 20's era not often seen scroll engraved 6.5x14 Black Beauty with 8 tube lugs. Engraved logo is on the center panel between strainer and butt - usually seen on strainer panel. Not a bad acquisition for a Rogers collector.

You bet that's a bucket-list drum! If you're planning to die now that you have it, can you please leave it to me in your will? LoLoLoLo

Thanks for the nice comments. These are wonderful playing drums when tuned properly - and not just the BBs, but the heavy two piece brass shell Standards as well. My favorite player is a beat to heck version of this drum (6.5x14 and 8 lugs), but it is a Standard with that wonderful worn nickel finish.

Thanks for the nice comments Tom. I agree with you about styling from that era. BTW - this one has never been cleaned (and won't be cleaned by me - except for gunk on the tension rods). It is in found condition with exception of wires. It came from a good friend who knew how much I dig those fat old 6.5's with 8 lugs.

Here are my other two 6.5" Standards - same shell as the BB.....

My player 20's era 6.5 with 8 tube lugs, heavy two piece shell, 50's COB triple flange hoops and an adapted modern Ludwig strainer.

The second one is an early 30's, 10 lug and also a heavy two piece shell with professional strainer....

The scrollwork on my Black Beauty 6 1/2 x 14 is much smaller in its flourishes.

The logo is under the strainer and does not have U S A below Chicago. Is my drum from a different year than yours?
