Are any of these things valuable?

From Ludwig-dude

Technically not true. If it said evaluate vintage drums, get an appraisal...then I could see that. The forum is supposed to be about general knowledge of vintage drums....what finishes were available, what's the correct hardware, when was it made, etc. Valuing them is a whole other ball game. Yes it happens to coincide with the hobby, but it is not the end all be all of it either. It just seems since the economy tanked, everyone wants to make a quick buck on something that they have no clue about, so they come here and ask questions to use to their advantage. Well....why not use the answers to our advantage? Offer an appraisal service on the forum, but CHARGE for it. Give the fees to David the webmaster towards the upkeep of the site.

Yes Sir ludwig-dude is dead on the money!!!! put me down for that voteYes Sir

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I would support that, but I also don't feel like I would like coming here as much if it started to be a "pay to learn" situation. I think most people are genuinely interested in all things drum related, and not just in it to get a free appraisal. What I mean is: this conversation is definitely NOT the norm here. Normally everyone is cool with one another and it is not all about who can score what $$ amount for what drum.

That said, I don't think it would be bad to set up an "appraisal service" and charge to have people who really know their stuff and dig using the forum anyway to volunteer to do appraisals for the benefit of the site. If I was a little more knowledgeable I would definitely volunteer.

Don kinda reminds me of Uncle Leo from Seinfeld when he gets busted lifting books at the books store.. "What? I'm an old man, I'm confused"

Adam the post that you made where you suggested what his post should have been like is EXACTLY spot on.

Easy and truthful phrase to end all arguments...

WHAT IS IT WORTH = What the other guy is willing to pay!:D

I lost money just recently on some old drum stuff,... oh well, I'm poorer for it but the sun is still shining!

A lot of us play for free from time to time eg; charities, friends, etc, and never complain..Why? because for the majority of us this has become our HOBBY.Lets not tear someone a new one just because he goofed up.Geez,i,d like a buck for everytime i,ve been corrected. If we can share any of our expertise i say do it.If someone has greed in thier intentions...let them. Its up to them who they suck into the web.If you,re going to pay stupid prices for drum gear, then send me a pm,cause i,ve got lots for you:D

Wow this thread sounds like a bunch of old guys arguing at a barbershop. This guy Don probably could not sell his drums because of his outrageous prices so he came to this forum to find a realistc value. Just tell him his prices are dumb and to lower them by !!!several thousand dollars!!!. I wish people would get this mad at the goverment for lying and cheating us all the time instead of some old man who knows nothing about vintage drums.

I guess this is a good time to let the head Numbskull have a few words.

I only say that because I have a t-shirt in our store with the title.

"Are you a Numbskull or a Drumskull" now that I just plugged a product here on the forum :) I want to think about this post a little bit.
