Anyone have probelms with UPS like this?? Missing drum parts!

Loading...

Ya know, when it rains it pours!

I'm now in quite a mess with UPS on a package that had an old 1920s cylindrical woodblock and mount in it that I had bought off ebay.

Has anyone else had the issue where these dopes either left the box right in the open, on my front steps where there is neither shelter from the weather nor any cover from prying eye, but is right in open view(which by their own rules they are NOT allowed to do!)... OR,... they delivered it to the wrong address?

Now its gone, I'm the middle of what seems to be a useless "trace" that they will be placing on the box,... and all I want is the drum piece I was looking forward to getting! HA!

Anyone else ever have this happened to them?.. if so how did you resolve it?

Well, I won't go into how or why, but yes, I've had extensive experience with UPS, albeit several years ago. First, I think it is a great company that usually does a great job, but...they do sometimes screw up, big time, as in your situation. A package will be left where it is stolen (as you said, that's against their own rules), a package will be left where the recipient can't find it or at the wrong address. I've even had packages turn up months later that were lost in the corner of a UPS handling center somewhere. All I can say is stay on their case...don't let them off the hook and don't let them drag out the trace for weeks. If you can get the shipper to pester them also it helps. The trace process can take a while, but eventually they will refund shipping charges and item cost, if it was insured. I know that doesn't get you the item you wanted in the first place. And, you don't want to buy another one knowing that the first one may eventually show up...that's the frustrating part! Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that! FedEx once lost a cylinderhead for my engine.....I don't know how someone would misplace something like that. They refunded my money so I have no hard feelings.

If it has already been delivered, that can be a little more challenging. Did you request a signature on delivery?

I hope it works out for you!

I have had a lot of situations with UPS like this. I do ship about 50 - 100 UPS packages a week. So I'm more likely to have issues.

Follow through with trace. It can yield results. Stick to your guns. If under $100 they will refund if you can hang in there and keep the heat on them.

I know the part is important, but try and get something back.

I remember discussing with my Fed Ex driver, they were testing a device that would photograph where they left the box. I can safely say they probably did not go to that system because of situations like this.

It would be nice to have a photo of the delivery location. Nolw that is what we should expect in the digital age.

well,... so far the fellow who sold it to me is moving along well,.. contacted the United Package Smashers (UPS) and they have started their trace on the package today.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that by some miracle it just shows up!!! Maybe it got lost in the back of the truck,.... or a neighbor got it and will return it,.... or if some punk kid decided to be a jerk, he or she will feel guilty when they open up the box and have no clue as to what the hell it is they just stole and will bring it back!! HA!

Fortunately I have never had a music related incident with them, but when i owned a bicycle shop, i received a pair of clipless pedals, the box looks like a tank had run over it, the UPS driver has the Deer in the headlights look, i didn't have to open the box, it already kinda was, so i make a claim, the agent on the phone ask what is the claim i describe what i have received, my final reply to the agent was there are tire tracks across the pedals black body, i had a full refund in 2 days, they ran over the box that my pedal where in and still delivered them, totally crushed, but it ended well. good luck with your situation

I can say that I have never had a problem with UPS other than sometimes it takes them 11 hours to deliver a package just 4 miles.

I have, however, had problems with FedEx as well as the USPS.

Good luck in your search.

The frustrating part is that with Vintage equipment its usually something that is hard to find. So even though getting the money back at the end of it all helps, it just puts you back to square one where you didnt have the part in the first place. So all the time you spent finding the item and setting up the deal is lost. All of this coupled with a "we left it on your doorstep" excuse, isnt actually anywhere near good enough.

Soap Box - I know, but when companies dont think about their customers i get really annoyed, if as a customer you made it as difficult for them as they do for you, they would go out of business.

goodluck finding it, i sincerely hope they have it somewhere

Thanks for the well wishes my friends!

I am still hopeful like I said that maybe some dope who was delivering it just mistakenly left it on the truck or something. Though I'm just disgusted that the guys who work for ups can't abide by their "OWN" simple rules!!!

I mean, it's not rocket science,... enclosed porch, back of house, OR,.... wide open space, on steps, no cover, etc, etc....???

"gee whiz!,...which one do I pick???... DOH

Did you check with any of your neighbors? If it was left there by accident? Our neighborhood is really old and the house numbers run out of sequence due to some newer homes that were built along the street. Pretty frustrating for any new parcel del person. Around here they all will just leave it on your doorstep unless there's a signature confirmation request. In that case if your not home they leave a slip that'll be delivered at a later time/date. Or you can pick it up at the depot. If the weather is nasty they will put it in a clear plastic bag at least. I hope it turns up for you!
