Another Vintage Made in Japan - " Pyramid " Drum Kit !!!!

Loading...

This drum kit is a real beauty, great sound, fantastic look ! Made in Japan, probably by Pearl or Tama.

I've been getting real lucky with these drums lately, wish I could keep them all.

Hi mcjnic,

The shells are basically thin ply Luan, (aka Phillipine Mahogany), with wood reinforcement rings. The sizes are 22" bass drum, 16" floor, 13" tom, 14" snare. The lugs are the standard Japanese copy of Slingerland.

That is a real cool kit! I'm fairly new to the forum and have been following both USA and Other. I am a Pearl freak and also From Swift Current Saskatchewan Canada so finds like that are very, very, rare. Wish I could land a kit like that around here for under 2k. So cool!

Hello,

Strange wrap! Cool.

What pricks my ears are the lugs (Slingy copy) and the shape

of the wrap: that appears to be in stripes, doesn't it?

Some threads earlier, I'm still looking for the producer's name

of a rack tom, that has similarities: a wrap in stripes, although

the surface shows it's 'one piece'... The wrap is definitely

not done by putting stripes together ... (would be an exhausting

work, wouldn't it? hehehe)

I would put your drumset more to the big TAMA/ Star family,

although there never existed this cool wrap (only something similarly

with curls called 'fantasia').

Or look at this one from Sonor here:

Pearl and it's family of brands never used these lugs - to my best

knowledge.

Both Slingerland and Rogers were famous for these types of wraps, they were known as "ONYX" wraps, real cool!!

Actually, I had a few early Pearl Drumkits that used the same types of lugs as these, mind you, this bass drum tom mount looks like a STAR type. Also, Pearl usually used floor tom leg mounts and bass drum cymbal mounts with the "Pearl" logo on them.

I think you're right, this is more of a "STAR" production drum kit.
