Hello,Strange wrap! Cool. What pricks my ears are the lugs (Slingy copy) and the shapeof the wrap: that appears to be in stripes, doesn't it?Some threads earlier, I'm still looking for the producer's nameof a rack tom, that has similarities: a wrap in stripes, althoughthe surface shows it's 'one piece'... The wrap is definitelynot done by putting stripes together ... (would be an exhaustingwork, wouldn't it? hehehe)I would put your drumset more to the big TAMA/ Star family, although there never existed this cool wrap (only something similarlywith curls called 'fantasia').Or look at this one from Sonor here:http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=6256Pearl and it's family of brands never used these lugs - to my bestknowledge.Ralf

Ralf, I have to say that my Majestic kit has those lugs, and I'm pretty sure they are a Pearl stencil, aren't they? I mean, you know your stuff, but those lugs are identical. I am in no way trying contradict you, they just look like the same stuff.

Hi Jonnistix,

Really no prob if you know it better!

Since some time I try to find out what makes the difference:

Star stencil kits vs. Pearl stencil kits. It's still difficult.

I always hang it up to the combination of all together:

if lugs + tom mount + covering are ALL TOGETHER matching

Star (... what I know about it ...), then it's Star only.

If just one point differs: then it's a stencil from anyone

else, but not the original.

So what makes you think it is more a Pearl than a Star?

Appreciating greatly your comments!

Well sir, I looked very closely at the lugs on all drums, and they appear to be exactly the same as on my Majestic set. The general consensus is that the lugs are one of the telling differences. I am by no means an expert on these kits. i just thought it looked almost identical. i am looking at a Maxwin tonight, if anyone is interested, I will post some photos later. They appear to to be in similar condition to the ones I already have...Mind Blowi

in green sparkle. He is asking...ouch...400. I think a little education is in order, as they appear to be incomplete, in need of a lot of work and with no brass.

Yes, Sir. Maxwin was made by Pearl, as could be red on some badges.

400 is much to much, especially if it's incomplete etc.. Maxwin was just a budget line. Here in Germany this will cost approx. EUR 100 - 150 (US-$ 140+), not more.

Hi,

I have a Pyramid snare that is all most a light blue oyster and it still has the drum key attached to it. The lugs are one piece and you can only tune the top skin. Can you tell me what year this snare is ???

To me that's a Star/Tama set.By the t-rods on the bass and claws the tom mount the L-arm mount--the wing-nut-- it all tells me Star...Also on the lugs i can't see them that good but the Star copy's of S/L are rounded on top of line going up the middle of lug..Pearl copy's of S/L lugs are flat on the middle line on the lugs...Mikey
