Looks well done but those deck boards splinter and without shoes....ouch!

Beautiful looking drum. It`s gonna look sharp with the trim.

Well, ended up with gloss top coat. Now deciding on what type of mount to get for the 13 and 14. Thinking about getting the Gibraltar suspension mounts that attach to a cymbal stand. Any comments on those would be appreciated.

I hate to say I told you, so I won't, but…..

As far as mounts, any suspension mount will be fine.

Oh yeah, black chrome all the way!!! Excited

Thanks Glenn, I like it too. The whole zebra wood look is starting to grow on me. I think once its all set up it will look nice. What I am concerned about the most though is the sound.

Jeff - I really wish you could come over and hear how warm and resonant the drums you veneered for me sound. The tone is like butter melting on hot pancakes.

The extra ply you added to those shells is not going to hurt the sound of those drums one bit. Oaklawn Camco's used Jasper shells that were a four ply lay-up. Camco's are notorious for being some of the best sounding drums in the world. You have nothing to worry about. Those drums are going to surprise you with how great they will sound. Trust me. You started with quality, aged shells, and you've added a ply of Zebra wood. Four ply shells... they're going to sound great!

I did not spray anything inside my shells, they are bare wood. I even removed what I think was the granitone finish from the 16x18 and the 10x14.

I am really thinking hard about suspension mounting the two toms in order to leave the bass drum virgin but still have a 2 up 2 down config.

After hanging around this forum for three years I am starting to pick up on what makes the drums sound good. Hopefully my edge work was done correctly and will have a big impact on the sound. When I did the Rogers, I cleaned up the edges on the router table and those XP8's are my best sounding drums!

Yes, I like them very much. I have not actually tuned the floor toms up yet. I finished them at 11:00 last night and worked on cabinets to noon today. Then I put the snare drum together and did hit it a few times, but my wife called dinner. I think it will be OK, but I need to play around with it some more.
