Well, I did not get them completely finished but got a good start. Here is some pics with three coats of level sealer. The sealer has a pretty nice glossy look to it but it is not good enough for a top coat. After seeing the drums with a glossy look I am seriously thinking about doing a satin top coat.

Also pictured is a close up of the hoop repair and one of the bass drum shell.

Thank you!

What are you not liking Jeff? The finish or the whole thing? Nothing worse than being in the middle of a project and not liking it much. :(

Oh, just the general look of the dark stripes running edge to edge. The finish is not done yet, I think I need to go over it with the level sealer a couple more times then top coat with a satin, maybe. I'm sure they will look better once they are set up with hardware and stuff.

Thank you!

They kind of remind me of the new Ludwig Signet series shells. Same type of vertical grain look to them. Except yours will have all the classic LW hardware.

It's going to look great.

I think whatever you do, these will look great. My preference would have been for a darker stain but that is just me. I think the vertical grain looks great. Check out some images of those killer Sonor rosewood kits that were produced in the 70's. They were all vertical grain and beautiful. Might be some good inspiration for you.
