BEAUTIFUL DRUMS! WOW! We certainly have seen some beautiful kits around this forum, lately! It's like eye-candy around here! That blue sparkle is one of those colors that just sends me off into outer space whenever I see it. You really have a nice collection of Rogers drums there. Fantastic! DON'T TAKE THEM TO SCHOOL!! Protect them with your life! ;)
Age and value of Rogers kit

Hi David - I looked at my Slingerland snare last night, and you are right: 8 lugs; Niles, IL badge with serial # 185693; wood shell can be seen in pic. What can you or anyone else tell me about this drum since I thought it was a student edition. My parents bought it for me as a grade schooler (new) in around 1974. At least I am assuming it was new when they got it for me.
Am I right about the year? If not Student Edition - what is it? What kind of snare throw is this? Any idea what kind of wood?
Thanks much! Ken
That's a nice '70s Hollywood Ace snare in silver sparkle. The DR's Slingerland articles can pinpoint the finish and 6 ply maple shell.
It's a nice snare...by all means, your son should take that to school and enjoy it.
I think besides old Sonor that Rogers are the next best thing, imo.I always looked at them as a much better built drum than Gretsch as well.Gretsch used the momentum of the jazz association for thier popularity, not that they were poorly made mind you,but Rogers are just so darn solid and professional.
I would have to agree with wayne. Rogers were built meticulously and they were also beautiful!
